Over the last four months Barrett legal have bul**** and harassed my wife over an outstanding account which she does not own nor owe. No amount of reasoning with their debt collection agents will stop them from their behaviour. Unable to escalate complaint to supervisor or partner.

I am lodging a formal complaint against **Barrett & Associates**, acting on behalf of **FNB**, regarding the mishandling of my settled account. Barrett & Associates provided me with a written settlement figure, which I duly paid. They then issued me with a settlement letter confirming the account was closed. Despite this, FNB has not been updated. Instead, the account was allowed to fall into arrears again and has now been handed over once more — as if no settlement ever occurred. This is unacceptable. I honoured my obligations as a consumer and settled the account in full. Due to the poor service delivery and lack of communication between Barrett & Associates and FNB, I am now being unfairly penalised. I have attempted to resolve this through Barrett & Associates’ contact centre. Each time I ask to speak to a manager, I am told she is “not available.” Calls are placed on hold indefinitely until the line goes dead. This is not only frustrating but unprofessional. How can a law firm outsource their brand and reputation to a contact centre that clearly does not represent them properly? I demand that Barrett & Associates immediately: 1. Honour the settlement letter they issued to me. 2. Rectify FNB’s records to reflect the account as fully settled. 3. Provide written confirmation of the correction without further delay. If this matter is not resolved, I will have no choice but to escalate: * A formal complaint to the **Legal Practice Council** against Barrett & Associates. * A complaint to the **Banking Ombudsman** against FNB. I refuse to be held accountable for errors caused entirely by the negligence of Barrett & Associates and FNB. I expect immediate escalation and resolution of this matter. Regards, T.L

I get calls every third day, I make arrangements and Inform them I'm awaiting documents they requested from my past employer, but everytime they call me they say there is no arrangements made, clearly they not putting notes to show that they are professional, most agents come across as rude and wanna do what they are told by superiors, but fail to understand my concern, so I'm blocking every number they call me from, cause I'm really tired of explaining myself, but still no positive outcome received

I keep on being harassed by calls and messages from Barret & Associates. I have on numerous occasions explained to the call center agent I am not a Sharon and I do not know a Shaon that has outstanding debt on a FNB Loan, but after a week or two the harassing calls and emails continues again. Stop calling the same people over and over it is extremely irritating and as explained several times I am not and do not know a Sharon.

"My husband was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. He has been in prison since August 2023 as per documentation sent to you and FNB on numerous occasions and as per telephonic I've had with them. I have rep**** to their mails / sent separate mails etc but it is a lost cause. I don't even know how many times I have sent the documentation through. HE IS IN JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems that they choose to ignore this simple fact just like they choose to ignore e-mails but then claim that they are being ignored or they are not able to reach you. Your claim that you haven't been able to reach him is false. I am going to spell it out again: HE IS NOT IGNORING YOU. HE IS IN JAIL. HE IS NOT ABLE TO WORK / E-MAIL / GET PHONE CALLS. He does not have a phone number anymore. You have been harassing me non stop with mails and calls. Leave me alone!

I'm extremely disappointed with the service I received from Nozipho Siyoko from Barrett & Associates on behalf of FNB. The agent assigned to my case was completely unprofessional and rude. From the outset the agent was aggressive and confrontational making demands and threats without listening to my situation. When I tried to explain my financial difficulties, the agent became dismissive and condescending. The agent's communication style was appalling - using derogatory language and tone. I felt belittled and harassed throughout the entire process. As a collection agency, I expect a certain level of professionalism and empathy Nozipho fell far short of my expectations. I would not recommend their services to anyone.

I settled my matter with them over 20 days ago, yet despite multiple follow-ups, I have still not received the paid-up letter that confirms the settlement of an old FNB loan. It has been 3 months since settlement, and they're still refusing acknowledgement even though I have provided proof of payment and follow up emails. I also received a letter regarding an FNB loan I had long believed was paid off. As soon as I received the letter, I immediately settled the full amount requested. After providing proof of payment, I received no acknowledgment. 30 days later, I received another settlement letter stating that once an additional amount was paid, the account would be closed and settled. Once again, I paid the full amount before the due date and sent proof of payment, but still received no acknowledgment, and they failed to report this to FNB. I was later contacted by Barrett & Associates, advising me to make another payment. When I informed them that I had already settled the debt as per the settlement letter and provided proof of payment, they told me I needed to pay yet another sum and promised to follow up with me, which they never did. After following up with FNB, I found out that Barrett & Associates had failed to inform them of the settlement I had made. I’ve made multiple follow-up requests with this firm, and the lack of professionalism and communication is appalling. This is ********* behavior and a clear breach of their responsibilities. Given the reviews here, it seems like this is a common practice with this firm, and I would encourage others to report it as well. I will be lodging a complaint with the Legal Practice Council (LPC) and Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), as this is unacceptable. This firm needs to be held accountable for their failure to perform their duties ethically and professionally.
