A bit of "mustard after the meal". I trusted someone who is a renowned art expert to sell some of my precious paintings due to unforseen circumstances and needed money quickly. The promise of quickly turned out to be 2 months and I was shocked that a reputable house like Bernardi allowed a Bettie Cilliers Barnard painting, valued at R40 000, to be auctioned off for R2000.I struggle to understand this,.because the "art expert" who I trusted, was the same dealer I bought the paintings from and valued the painting at R40 000.

I recently went to Bernardi Auctioneers. They are a family run business with a long history of generations of experience and knowledge of art, antiques and collectables of all types. They guided me to make the right choice in an investment piece. Even a novice can buy with confidence as they take time to share their knowledge. It is an interesting experience to visit them and see what they have to offer. There are good investment pieces they can show and explain. There are beautiful pieces of furniture sold on their Wednesday auction at really reasonable prices. I attended the Wednesday morning auction which is at their premises and a live auction and there were some real bargains and I would recommend any person looking for quality furniture at bargain prices to go on a Wednesday and see what they have on offer I have found that the very large auction houses nolonger have time to give much guidance. I recommend Bernardi Auctioneers I come from a family of antiques dealers and art collectors and I definitely recommend Bernardi Auctioneers They will take the time to guide and assist It is extremely interesting to even just take a look at what they have to offer They are friendly and professional If you want to buy or sell you should first try them You won't be disappointed

I am now 65 years old and have bought and sold through Bernardi Auctioneers all my life My mother and Aunt were Art and antiques dealers from England going back as far as I can remember from the early 60s they only bought and sold through Bernardi Auctioneers when they came to South Africa Previously it was known as Volks Auctions in Pretoria and I remember the expert Edward Bernardi who was entrusted to sell the entire deceased estate of Alexis Preller I remember that Auction and the expert knowledge the Bernardi family have from long experience. Even though many new "experts" have now emerged I still believe that the generations of experience the Bernardi family have can not be matched. They understand that " the value of anything sold on auction is really what the buyer will pay" At Bernardi Auctioneers a seller can expect an honest evaluation which is realistic to the market trends of today Bernardi Auctioneers have experience and an excellent reputation built up over generations with genuine buyers, dealers and realistic sellers I recommend Bernardi Auctioneers; especially to buyers. When you buy from Bernardi Auctioneers you can be certain you have purchased a genuine article at a good price For sellers; it is important to remember that The Bernardi Family have years of experience and knowledge They have a solid foundation and reputation. These are the real experts They are honest and fair

Disappointing. 15 Dec 2022 I gave Bernardi Auctioneers proxy to sell on my behalf all items they collected from my home. The proxy was given to them based on my decades experience with Bernardi Auctioneers as a buyer that gave me confidence that they had the most expertise knowledge and integrity in this field and my items were in the best hands to obtain decent prices, or the items would be carried over to a following sale if unreasonable price were obtained. Some items were general cheaper items, all in working order, and fair to good condition, several larger furniture items, some high price collectable items, various art work, designer furniture, Persian Carpets, etc. The selling of items started in early January 2023 and payments for sold items were accompanied with detailed statements via Email in Pdf format. In the beginning, sales of high priced items, I was called to confirm the price offered is acceptable to me, Eg. King-size Xtra Lenght Latex base set bed, and later in the year, Dec 23, for an offer on a black piano finished Design Benedict 6 door side cupboard, from a walk-in customer. Apart from these two items, I was never contacted again for any other high price items. It is understandable the same procedures could not be followed for small's and cheaper items. Periodically after the sale of my items, it was followed up with statements and payments. I started receiving payments and statements for items sold that were of high value, worth a couple of thousand Rands items, but only received a rediculous couple of hundred Rands. I queried these items numerous times telephonic and via Email, WhatsApp and in person. The items in dispute were never discussed or resolved, nor did I get answers to my questions. We now at 7 October 2024, 22 months since commencement date, and these disputes and discrepency has not been addressed or resolved, nor has our transaction been mutually concluded. Back-forth endless communication with promises made and not kept, left me unfairly frustrated, distressed and anguished. Surprise, surprise, the moment the HelloPeter.com post went live I very quickly got a phone call, not to engage how we could resolve the disputes and unpaid items, but to threaten me with legal action if I don't remove this review. I was assured they would resolve any disputes and unpaid items, if I would please give them an opportunity to do so, and remove this review. I obliged their request giving them the benefit of my doubt and removed my review, only to be subjected to the same delay tactics as was done before. Therefor, here I am back to posting my review after promises and commitments weren't kept. The admin tracking, billing, payments and statements issued were sporadic and very difficult to figure out and track which of my items were sold and at what price. Most initial statements were send via Email in PDF format, and then suddenly some statements was send via WhatsApp in Jpeg format, making it difficult for me to recon. I eventually had to create a spreadsheet to see what the status is on all my items. I shared this spreadsheet with them via Email to help them navigate through what was sold, what was still outstanding and what items I am disputing. Eg: A particular high price item received an offer from a walk-in customer (not on auction). This offer was relayed to me telephonic, I propsed a counter offer which was accepted. When I received a payment (without a statement) for this particular item, the amount I received was nor the accepted counter price, but a price even less than the original offered price. I brought this under their attention more than 8 months ago, and to date it has still not been rectified. In this type of business there is a level of blind trust given to the company. The trust that was cultivated over many decades as a buyer, was betrayed with this one last transaction whereby I am this time round the seller. 😡😖🧐

They do not even qualify for the one star i gave them. Since November 2023 they have my items. Its now February 2024. Minimum payment received. No communication. Emails goes unanswered. Messages gets answered with false and empty promises. The commission rate is extremely high. When you are lucky enough to get a payment, most of it goes to VAT and Commission… they have not even requested MY VAT NUMBER… they just take take take… No statements on goods sold. Goods sold at ridiculously low prices. Not even close to what Bernardis valued it at. Im appalled by the service. Very disappointing and unsatisfying. Poor service. Do not sell ANYTHING through Bernardis!!! Luckily. I didn’t send everything i wanted to.
