What the Banking CCA is

The Hellopeter Consumer Choice Awards (CCA) give every South African a direct vote on which bank delivers the best customer experience. Voting opens on 1 September 2026 and closes 30 November. Winners are announced 15 December.

The 2025 banking category drew over 180,000 individual votes. The 2026 voting categories include Best Digital Bank, Best Branch Experience, Best Complaint Resolution, and Best Bank Overall.

How voting works

Cast your vote in three steps. The whole process takes under 60 seconds and runs on WhatsApp — no app download, no account creation.

1. Tap the "Vote Now" button. Opens WhatsApp with a pre-filled message addressed to Hellopeter's Voting Bot.

2. Pick your bank. The bot replies with the full list of South African banks. Reply with the number next to your preferred bank.

3. Tell us why. One sentence on what makes your bank stand out. This is the most important step — your reasons become public testimonials used to compute the winner.

Votes are verified against Hellopeter user IDs to prevent ballot stuffing. Anonymous votes are accepted but weighted lower than verified-user votes.

Last year's winners

Capitec Bank won Best Bank Overall in 2025, with 38% of verified votes. Discovery Bank won Best Digital Bank for the third consecutive year. FNB took Best Branch Experience.

The bottom of the 2025 ranking was tight: ABSA, Nedbank, and African Bank each received fewer than 4% of votes. Their public commentary on Hellopeter focused on fee transparency, fraud handling, and resolution speed.

Why your vote matters

The CCA shapes how 4 million Hellopeter readers make banking decisions in 2027. Banks use winning category badges in their advertising and onboarding. Losing categories often trigger executive-level CX investments — the 2024 winner of "Worst Bank for Complaints" added 350 frontline complaint-resolution staff within 6 months.

Your vote is one of the most direct signals you can send to your bank's leadership.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can vote in the Hellopeter CCA Banking 2026?
Any South African over the age of 18 with access to WhatsApp. You don't need a Hellopeter account, but verified Hellopeter users have higher vote weight (1.5x). Voting is one ballot per phone number per category.
When do voting and results happen?
Voting opens 1 September 2026 and closes 30 November 2026 at 23:59. Winners are announced 15 December 2026 in a public results event and on the Hellopeter homepage. All vote data is anonymised before publication.
Can I see who's currently winning?
Live category leaderboards are published weekly during the voting period. Detailed by-province, by-age-band, and by-account-type breakdowns are released only after voting closes to prevent strategic voting.
How is my vote verified?
Verified Hellopeter users (accounts older than 30 days with at least one published review) have their vote tagged as "verified." Anonymous votes still count but at 0.5x weight. Hellopeter cross-references phone number, IP, and device fingerprint to prevent ballot stuffing.
What categories can I vote in?
Banking 2026 has four categories: Best Bank Overall, Best Digital Bank, Best Branch Experience, Best Complaint Resolution. You can vote in all four — one vote per category. Voting one category does not require voting in others.
