Until recently, i have had over a period of many years a good relationship with bookstores who buy and sell good quality used books. I have bought and sold back many books over the years.
I delivered two supermarket trolleys of books to Lettle Mahlangu in Lonehill in May. She told me she could only take the childrens books and a few novels. For these books she paid me R120.
I was in the shop again recently and discovered that the 'worthless' books she had given charity were on the shelves. There wasn't one book priced under R250. Amongst the assortment I delivered were Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver cookbooks, coffee table books, various subjects. Amongst the childrens books, a Beatrix Potter collection of miniatures for which I received R20. They are priced on the shelf for R250. There was also a Winnie the Pooh miniature collectable for which I was paid R20. The balance I.e R80 was for a handful of novels each at R10.
Reading the reviews about this particular store, this is not a once off experience amongst patrons and it's a brazen dishonest business practice.
