I have to say I am so disappointed with this store they are Books Galore Linden. I phoned to ask if they would be able to purchase about 50-60 books second hand but basically brand new they assured me they would be happy to but had to first evaluate the condition and see what they can offer so I said I would come past today. I drove to them had to get a car guard to help me unload my books and take them to the store where I was met by a rude woman who said did you phone ? So I said I did and was told they would evaluate the books and make me an offer. I get met with we are cashless I can offer you store credit so I said this will not work. I am disappointed because I phoned ahead of time to make sure there was no room for this type of mistake from my end to assume I can sell to them an from a store to assume I would agree to store credit. This was my experience a waste of petrol and my time and I hope people avoid coming here. Pathetic management and pathetic staff!

Until recently, i have had over a period of many years a good relationship with bookstores who buy and sell good quality used books. I have bought and sold back many books over the years. I delivered two supermarket trolleys of books to Lettle Mahlangu in Lonehill in May. She told me she could only take the childrens books and a few novels. For these books she paid me R120. I was in the shop again recently and discovered that the 'worthless' books she had given charity were on the shelves. There wasn't one book priced under R250. Amongst the assortment I delivered were Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver cookbooks, coffee table books, various subjects. Amongst the childrens books, a Beatrix Potter collection of miniatures for which I received R20. They are priced on the shelf for R250. There was also a Winnie the Pooh miniature collectable for which I was paid R20. The balance I.e R80 was for a handful of novels each at R10. Reading the reviews about this particular store, this is not a once off experience amongst patrons and it's a brazen dishonest business practice.

I've been using Books Galore for almost 12 years now and have always been very happy with their friendly service and well-informed staff. It has also exposed me to books that I would probably never have come across, and I believe it fulfils a wonderful community service, especially for people who cannot afford new books, and people who cannot otherwise access the main bookstores. However, lately there has been an enormous jump in the book prices - literally with the average more than doubling, en coming close to prices charged by Bargain Books or even the main bookstores for new books. Although I appreciate the ever increasing costs, I wonder whether this is quite justified. For example, the business doesn't really have transport expenses as clients bring and take the books themselves. So I wonder if a downward review of the steep increase is possible to allow for greater turnover of stock. As things stand now, people who can afford it will rather go out and buy a new book and then return it to Books Galore for some credit which, in the end, is going to grind the business down. That would be a great pity for all of those who have used the place with so much pleasure over the years.
