For years I have been a Breitling fan. Finally, 11 years ago purchased one and shortly thereafter also one for my wife. Initially everything went well, when these watches needed batteries replaced. Then Breitling opened there shop in Sandton and now the watches need to be sent away to have the batteries replaced!! By courier to Cape Town??? And the owner has to pay R500 for the courier costs and the insurance!!! But wait until you receive the quote: nearly R3000 to replace the battery. AND then another R8000 to replace the inside of the watch, because it is apparently unserviceable. I disagreed and told them to only replace the battery. The watch was working 100% when I received it back. Breitling is obviously under the impression that, if you can afford their watches, you are gullible / stupid enough to fall for their scam. What they did not consider, is that there are may other reputable brands. I will probably never do business with Breitling again. Good riddance!

I purchased a R 65,000.00 brand new Breitling watch for my husband's birthday in March this year. Not even 6 months later, the leather strap has started to separate and is looking unsightly. We took the watch in to the store, and they want to charge R 3,000.00 to repair / replace the worn bits. They tell me it is standard wear and tear.....

Really??? After 7 months of use.

You spend a fortune on a watch to have \wear and tear"in 7 months. My Tag Heuer is a better buy!"""

A year ago I wrote a complaint about my unreliable Breitling Super Avenger watch on this site.

In short: after several calls and emails (still have record of it) the after sales manager , Mari Ludick of Breitling SA eventually quoted me between R2000 to R5500 to service the watch depending what is wrong with it.

I found this to be exorbitant as I was informed that the watch needs to be serviced every couple of years (at what future cost?)

If I knew at the time of purchase this is the case I would never have bought this watch. I now have a R70 000 white elephant gathering dust in a drawer as it is totally useless as a time piece.

I have a R200 plastic watch that keeps better time and is older than than the Breitling.

DISGUSTING! To say the least!!

Edward Gray
