Purchased a dress online that took 3 weeks to be delivered, despite a 2 week from date of purchase return policy. Was then told I can return the item by post at my cost to the nearest store and to send in ID and bank verification letter. Item was couriered to the store and 2 weeks later I still haven’t heard from anyone, I have called numerous times and my emails just go unanswered. So currently they have the dress and my money!!! Very unprofessional service.

Bride & Co Umhlanga – Unacceptable, Disrespectful, and Deeply Unprofessional I am writing this review to formally express my absolute disappointment with Bride & Co Umhlanga. What my family and I experienced was not only unprofessional, but outright disrespectful and demeaning. We visited the store this past weekend by appointment, as this is the first wedding in our family—a once-in-a-lifetime moment that should have been handled with care, dignity, and professionalism. Instead, we were made to feel judged, belittled, and unwelcome almost immediately. A staff member by the name of Natasha behaved in a manner that was completely inappropriate for someone working in a bridal environment. The very first focus was not on the bride, her vision, or her experience, but on how much we were willing to spend. When we stated our budget of R25,000 to R30,000, Natasha responded by saying it was “pocket change, that’s all.” That statement was shocking, insulting, and entirely unnecessary. No customer—especially a bride and her family—should ever be spoken to in such a dismissive and degrading way. Budget aside, basic respect should never be optional. To make matters worse, we were then questioned about why we had viewed dresses at another bridal store and made to feel as though we had no right to be there. The tone and attitude communicated very clearly that we were not considered “good enough” to be in that space. What should have been a joyful, emotional, and memorable experience was reduced to one where we felt treated like second-class people. This level of arrogance and lack of empathy is unacceptable, particularly in an industry that relies on trust, sensitivity, and human connection. The contrast was made painfully clear when we left Bride & Co Umhlanga and visited Jasmine’s, where we were treated with professionalism, warmth, and genuine respect. As a direct result of that experience, we spent double the amount we initially intended. That outcome alone highlights that the issue was never about budget—it was about attitude and how people are treated. A wedding dress is not just a sale; it is part of a lifelong memory. Bride & Co Umhlanga has permanently attached itself to one of the worst experiences our family has had during what should have been a beautiful time. Management should take this feedback extremely seriously. No bride, and no family, deserves to be spoken down to, judged, or humiliated under the guise of “luxury service.”

In May 2025, I bought the dress of my dreams from Bride & Co Parkview. It cost R17,000, and it was everything I had ever imagined—elegant, timeless, and perfect for my wedding day. I was overjoyed. But that joy quickly turned into anxiety and heartbreak. When I took the dress in for alterations, the first fitting went smoothly, except for the bust area, which was still too loose. The seamstress assured me she would fix it by the next fitting. She also promised that the extra buttons I had requested would be sewn in by then. She scheduled my final fitting for October 22nd, saying everything would be ready and the dress would be sent for dry cleaning afterward. But she never called. She later claimed my phone went straight to voicemail, which wasn’t true—I received no missed calls or messages. On Friday, October 25th, I called her myself. She said she had been trying to reach me to confirm the button placement before finishing them—something I was told would already be done. Still, I rushed over for the fitting that same afternoon. When I arrived at Bride & Co Parkview, the seamstress was nowhere to be found. While waiting, I browsed short reception dresses because the Pretoria heat is unbearable—let me emphasize, short dresses. Eventually, she appeared with my dress. I put it on, and my heart sank. The lace on the shoulders was crumpled and bunched together. The lace over the bust area looked like it had been stitched by a child—wrinkled, uneven, and completely ruined. It wasn’t the cups I had added; it was the lace overlay, and it was a mess. I started overheating, and my panic attack began. Trying to fix it on the spot, she began removing some of the sewn-in pieces. In doing so, she poked a hole in the shoulder of my dress—a hole as big as my **** of honor’s pinky. I was devastated. She said she’d fix it and send the dress for dry cleaning, but couldn’t give me a date. She’d “call me.” My wedding was now just two weeks away, and my dream dress was falling apart. The lace was still in disarray, the bust area looked terrible, and now there was a gaping hole in the shoulder. And yet, she wanted to send it for dry cleaning and hand it over to me like that. In a panic, I bought another long dress that same day—spending another R8,000—just in case the original couldn’t be salvaged. I had wanted a short reception dress, but after spending so much, I couldn’t afford one anymore. After the appointment, I called my family, heartbroken. My R17,000 dress was ruined. The seamstress had vanished after damaging it, and I was left confused and deeply upset. My brother, seeing how distraught I was, said they had stripped the magic from my dress and should refund me. He called the manager, but the seamstress insisted there was “nothing wrong” with the dress. But how can anyone say that? Crumpled lace over the bust, tangled shoulder details, and a hole in the arm—how is that not damage? She later called me, spinning lies—claiming she had been waiting for us downstairs (she wasn’t), that she hadn’t ruined the dress, and that I still needed a final fitting. But if a final fitting was still needed, why did she say she was sending it for dry cleaning? You don’t dry clean a dress that’s still falling apart. You don’t hand it to a bride without making sure she’s happy with it. This has been a horrible, heartbreaking experience. A beautiful dress, full of promise, ruined by careless hands and broken promises. I want a refund for the dress and alterations as like I said the magic of the dress was ruined. I will be going to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud to see how they feel about this experience

I’m writing this review on behalf of my sister, who has been left devastated by her experience with Bride & Co. She bought her dream wedding dress on **17 May 2025** for **R17 000**. As requested, she returned it six weeks before her wedding for alterations. When she went back for her fitting, she discovered the alterations were done incorrectly — the dress no longer fit, and while trying to fix it, the seamstress **punched a hole in the dress**. My sister was in tears and had a panic attack two weeks before her wedding. Instead of taking accountability for the damage, they then took advantage of her and **sold a second dress** for **R7 000**, saying they couldn’t guarantee when the original would be ready. No refund or proper solution was offered for the R17 000 dress that Bride & Co had damaged. This is completely unacceptable and a clear **contravention of the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA)**, which protects consumers’ right to proper workmanship and redress when services cause damage. Bride & Co failed to uphold these rights and profited from their mistake by selling a second dress under pressure. No bride should be treated this way, especially so close to her wedding. Bride & Co needs to take responsibility and make this right — not just for my sister, but for every future bride who trusts them with such an important purchase.

The dress I ordered because I stay in Bloemfontein was torn and dirty. I ordered it and I received it with courier. I contacted them and they told me they will have it dry cleaned as soon as the alterations get done. I bought a dress that was on sale. No one told me at the time that the dress looks like plenty of brides previously got married in it. I contacted Bride and Co and they assured me that the dress was never been worn before even though it looked like the dress had been worn and torn and very dirty at the bottom. Make-up stains and torn at the back. I decided to drive from bloem to jhb to get it sorted out and tailord. To my surprise they told me I am responsible for the dry cleaning and must pay them to get it dry cleaned. Isnt a wedding dress supposed to be dry cleaned before they sell it? Or when its sold? The alterations was done wrong or the dress had shrunk with the dry cleaning. It were a big mess because of this dress that was fitted and worn!! Not by me.. it was streched and they took my measurements and after that they dry cleaned it. I had to pay for a courier again and then in 1 week the dress was too small!! I had to pay again in Bloem for alterations. I will never recommend anyone to them. Never. It cost me a fortune when it was supposed to cost me only the price on the dress. I believe that dress was worn previously. I asked them if they rented out the dress and the told me no. Its only new dresses. Could have fooled me!! That dress was worn previously. Which bride and co branch floor will be so dirty to get a dress so soiled by just fitting a dress in the dressing room?
