I am writing to request your urgent assistance in resolving an issue that has arisen between my medical aid provider (GEMS – Authorisation team) and the radiology partners your practice utilises (Burger Radiologists). The matter concerns the procedural codes submitted for my recent MRI scans, which are essential for the ongoing management of my wife’s confirmed diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Following discussions with the medical aid, they have confirmed that they do not dispute the clinical necessity of the scans (which are annual scans used to compare past and present data in relation to the condition). However, they have indicated that the procedural codes submitted by burger do not fall within the MS benefit category. As a result, the claims are being processed under my family’s annual benefits rather than the Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB). This is concerning, as it results in a steep shortfall that we are now expected to cover, even though the PMB basket should fully cater for these scans. The codes submitted by your team include: 70553 – MRI Brain Stem W/O & W/Dye 72142 – MRI Neck Spine W/Dye 51410 and 10430 – Others While I understand that G35 (Multiple Sclerosis) was used as the diagnosis code, the medical aid has advised that the linked procedural codes do not align with the MS benefit basket. This technical mismatch appears to be the root of the issue. Burger Radiologists has stated that they worked off the information provided in the referral and used the codes accordingly. However, upon reviewing the referral myself, it is clear that MS is explicitly cited, including references such as “RR (relapsing remitting) on treatment,” which should have guided the coding more accurately. The medical aid further explained that they rely on the codes submitted to determine benefit eligibility. They used the example that while a patient may have MS, if the codes submitted reflect general or unrelated aspects, they cannot process the claim under prescribed minimum benefit category. We have tried to explain this to you authorising specialist, however, we have had little success. I therefore ask that you please review this case as a matter of urgency and provide the medical aid with the correct procedural codes that are linked to the MS basket. Alternatively let us clearly know what the issue at hand is. All rights reserved.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Exceptional care and compassion I had a 14:00 appointment on Monday, 25 August 2025, at Burger Radiology in Arwyp, Kempton Park, after discovering a lump in my left breast on Saturday morning. Having lost my mom in 2018 after a 23-month battle with cervical cancer, my fear of any form of cancer is very real, and I subconsciously convinced myself that this was breast cancer. I first went for a mammogram, which was very uncomfortable, but the lady assisting me made me feel at home. When I saw a white lump on the screen, I immediately got emotional, believing it confirmed my worst fears. She gently reassured me that it might not be what I thought, which already helped ease my anxiety. After the mammogram, I went for a sonogram, and by this time, I was in tears, speaking to my husband. The lady performing the sonar was amazing—she explained everything clearly and reassured me that it was only a very large cyst and not cancer. I don’t think people always understand the aftereffects of past trauma, but these two ladies went above and beyond. Their professionalism, compassion, and care made an incredibly stressful experience much more bearable. I am truly grateful to them and to Burger Radiology for providing such a supportive environment.

Your are absolutely ************ shady company. On 2 separate occasions I took my mum in to have X-rays done after she fell and broke her hip. On both those occasions I paid the bill immediately out of pocket. Only to find out that your company has resubmitted both those invoices to my mums medical aid and got paid by the medical aid as well. Now in order for me to claim this money back I have to complete paperwork and get my 82 year old mum to write letters to confirm I may act on her behalf. You created the *****ulent problem. You resolve it without any effort or intervention from my side. You *******. How many other innocent people have you done this to, to enrich yourselves?

I went to Unitas hospital emergency unit on Monday evening,7 April 2025 thinking that my appendix is not well. The doctor that saw me said that I should go to Burger Radiologists on Tuesday morning for a sonar exam to see if it is infact my appendix causing the pain or something else, but I should not eat or drink anything that morning, should I go to theater, then I am ready for it. When I arrived at Burger radiologists for a full abdominal scan, they advised me to drink a lot of water as a full bladder will help the examiner to have a clearer view of my ovaries. I informed the receptionist that my doctor advised me not to eat or drink anything as we want to be prepared should I go to theater. When the examiner called me into the examining room she asekd me why am I not allowed to drink water. I then explained the whole situation to her that I should be ready to go to theater if the sonar shows that the problem is with my appendix. Reception also called my doctor and confirmed with my doctor that I am not allowed to drink the water. The examiner attacked me verbally by saying "so this sonar is going to decide whether you go to theater or not but your doctor does not want you to drink water for me to get a clear view"... This examiner went on to a point where I said to her that I am just following orders from my doctor and it is not my decision. During the exam she made a comment about me having a fatty liver, which I do not believe they are allowed to do, and then she made a big scene about seeing something concerning, calling her colleague and another doctor to come and have a look. When I asked her if it is something to be worried about she said "your doctor will tell you if it is something to worry about". Naturally her actions made me concerned and then hearing that she won't tell me if I should be concerned made my concern even worse. I have never had such a bad experience with a health care provider before. In the end my diagnosis was not even something to be concerned about and she had me stressed for hours for no reason. I tried to send the complaint directly to Burger Radiologists but creating an account on their website was such a struggle I ended up not even creating the account and decided to place my concern here. I hope this review helps someone else to not go through what I went through yesterday.
