Anyone who is looking to start a coffee franchise make sure that you avoid Cafe2Go this company is a scam Cafe2go has left dozens of investors high and dry through an alleged “flipping” pattern where successful franchises and their owners are dumped after dubious audits. The franchises are then re-sold to new owners, at seemingly higher prices while the original owners are left, fighting for their investments. Meanwhile, in the background, Cafe2go has been liquidated but the recruiting is still going on for the Cafe 2 Go. The Owners are scammers. NB!!! Don't do business with these people. I repeat Don't do business with these people. They should be arrested. Here is the link for evidence https://www.enca.com/shows/devi-cafe2go-and-lady-sword-03-june-2021

Be Careful When Dealing With Mark and Jan plus Cafe2go South Africa I bought a franchise from Cafe2go South Africa on 03/10/2019. The franchise is a café located at Century city, Cape town in the Western cape, the directors of the franchise are Adv. Jan Grobler and Mark Du Plessis. During the purchase process I was in contact with Mark. He told me about the place. I loved the place from the word go and its location. I was eager to learn about the hospitality industry and grow my knowledge. The café was going to be me and my family source of income. I bought the place on the 3rd of October 2019. I started trading on the 18th of October 2019. Mark sends me a disclosure document which clearly stipulated what I stand to receive when prospective franchisee buys a franchise. I was happy and satisfied that I will receive my own equipment. However, that was not the case, all equipment listed on the disclosure document I did not receive any and I did not receive stock to start trading. The stock was supposed to be bought on a Monday since I started on a Friday. However, nothing was bought I had to buy stock out of my own pocket whereas I was promised to receive stock. When it comes to the training, I was supposed to be given I never received it instead there give me a former employee of the café to give me training and I was supposed to pay him R 9000, on the disclosure document it stated that training is given at sum of R 10 000 when you buy the franchise, and the money is included in the purchase price. Some equipment was supposed to be paid by the franchisor to ciro however none of that was done and ciro had to constantly threaten to come take their equipment which I personally end up renting from ciro myself. Now coming to the centre, I operate at there is always complaints coming from customers which is never supported with evidence and the complaints has been going on for some time however they all go o the franchisor and he will come and make threats that he will take his café however when I ask for evidence on all complaints nothing is given nor shown to me. Recently the franchisor has cancelled the franchise agreement however we did not sign anything, and he told me to leave the café which I did because he asked for my cooperation and have given him that however I think his taking advantage of my situation that I do not have money to fight him in court and exploits me, I stand to be correct. I do not understand why they would tell me to leave the place without the franchise agreement been nullified. They also took some of my equipment which they tell me that is because of outstanding royalties. This people here don't want franchisees they want to take people's money and run away with it. Be careful when you deal with them. Jan is a lawyer so he knows very well how to crook people. They good at threatening with legal proceedings. When you buy a franchise expect nothing from them. They disclosure document is there to attract prospective franchisees only. I wish people of South Africa can know what crooks this two people are. They don't have hearts, They are nice people when you firstly meet them. However after you pay them they will come with all sorts of baseless accusations from the landlord, customers and even not support regarding the complaints.

I would never recommend for anyone to buy into this business. Jan & Mark sells a great concept BUT they DO NOT deliver. We were sold 'predictions' which, within the first week, we could see weren't the truth. I never dealt with either Jan or Mark for the negotiation or purchase of the franchise of 50 Long Street, as my partner did most of those meetings, but from the very first time I personally met them I told my partner that there was something off about these two........we very soon found out that I wasn't wrong. We were done in from the start. We never received the stock & equipment as per the purchase agreement, we received some eventually little bits by little bits, but not anything close to what the contract stated. We sat without as much as a cup for the first three months that we traded & had to serve customers out of take away cups, which we had to purchase out of our own pockets. Later we found out we did not own the machine, which it clearly stated on the purchase agreement we did, the machine, we later found out was on a Hire Purchase in Head Office name. After a few months of disputing stock & equipment Jan eventually came with his own calculations, scribbled down on a paper, of stuff he recons were never taken into consideration & started walking around in the shop deducting rand value on stuff that were already there upon takeover & included in the purchase price, yet deducted it again in lieu of the espresso machine which also was part of the purchase agreement.....needless to say we eventually gave up the fight & had to rent a machine because of the pickle we were in. None the less, after this meeting, I told my partner that I sense that the company is in trouble & that something just feels amiss, not very long after that we sold back to Head Office at a severely reduced rate (which we later found out was their modes operandi, then they resell the same shop over & over again at the normal rates) which they offered us & they offered to pay it off over a few months. We waited for months & nothing was paid. We eventually got a lawyer involved & saw some movement. Not long after that we were informed of their alleged (because they are still fully operational) Liquidation & that no suppliers would be paid. Some people lost their entire fortune, their life savings that they had put into Cafe2go & lost it ALL. Thankfully we saw the snake in the grass early & pulled out on time & at least got some of our money back. To date they still owe us money on the already & severely reduced rate at which we sold it back to them. We now have to pay the liquidators to get that money back, which may end up costing us more than they actually owe us, so we have let it go. All & all we have lost more than 100k & that doesn't even begin to factor in the lawyers costs, the loss in equipment & stock we never received, nor the time spent & lost. I would never recommend for anyone to buy a Cafe2go franchise & deal with Jan & Mark. Their dealings are shoddy & they DO NOT deliver in the least bit. You WILL lose money that is a guarantee!!! I can give you a list of people that have lost money by dealing with these two.

Good day Please be careful when purchasing a Cafe2go Franchise from Jan & Mark. These 2 guys just got Liquidated an owe Suppliers, Landlords etc a few million. Please don't invest in any Cafe2go Franchise with these 2 guys. They sell a very good concept that will never be profitable. Sell sites to people that are not profitable, buy them back at reduced rates en resell to the next interest buyers. Please be careful.

HANNO AND JAN, OWNERS OF CAFE 2 GO SOUTH AFRICA WERE MY AGENTS FOR MY PRODUCTS IN CAPE TOWN, THEY ORDERED STOCK TO THE VALUE OF R55 000.00 PROMISING TO PAY. THEY USED THE MONEY MADE FROM THE SALE OF MY PRODUCTS TO OPEN UP THIS BUSINESS. THEY ARE LIARS, THIEVES, DISHONEST PEOPLE. THEY SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE POLICE. ANYONE WHO IS IN DEALINGS WITH THEM SHOULD BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL!

I booked and paid a deposit for Cafe2Go services for a very personal event. They just did not show up. After calling numerous times the franchisee, Keith Ashby, continuously lied about being on his way and eventually switched off his phone. This left me to entertain my guests with having water with their meals. Very poor service. Extremely unhappy and will not recommend their services to anyone.
