Worst experience EVER. We booked our Renault Stepway into Canterbury on Clare to assist with a timing chain that was faulty. We agreed to pay a deposit of R10500 before they would start on the car - full quote just over 18k
It took them a week to order parts, then it took another week to do the work. After 2 weeks we were informed that the car was still not running, and that there was another issue with the car, and that they had to remove the engen again to see if they could find the issue.
After 3 weeks the mechanic called us to inform us that there is a huge issue with the engen, and that it would never run again. They informed us that they could assist with replacing the engen. We asked them to stop all work on the car, so we could figure out what our next steps should be.
The car was still under a finance agreement, and I immediately contacted Renault to go out and assess the car so we could try and trade it in for a new car.
And this is where things get VERY interesting.
Renault went out to look at the car, and informed the mechanic that they will be doing a full assessment on the car to assess the trade in value. Later the same afternoon, the mechanic called my husband and told him that he made a HUGE mistake. He inserted the timing chain incorrectly, and that was the reason why the engen was not working and made a terrible sound.
The mechanic apologised and informed us that the car will be ready and driving by the next Monday.
This felt like an elaborate ****, where they tried to milk us for as long as they could.
Once Renault got involved, they realised that they will not be able to **** us, and backtracked on their first assessment.
By now, I have lost all faith in Canterbury on Clare. I requested to pay half of the outstanding amount on the day of collection and the balance in a few days time, to give us enough time to get the car assessed by Renault, and for us to test the car.
They were not accommodating at all. We paid a deposit in good faith, believe every story they told us. I am so absolutely dissapointed in the service, and how I was treated by Tanya the receptionist. She told me that they are not a credit service provider, and that I needed to pay the full outstanding amount before they will release the car. I assumed, that after the very bad customer experience that we had, that they would be more understanding, and try to salvage a bad situation. I was so very wrong.
You will most definitely be ****med if you use Canterbury on Clares.
