Always been hesitant to shop at Checkers in general being on pension as I know their prices are mostly higher than other supermarkets and I live there in Gardens super close. Not sure if it's the area as perceived to be more effluent but recently found 2 staple items bread and milk increase by R2 or more. Sasko brown small slices up to R18.99. Possible 18 or 19% increase. Milk up R1 in packets. Even cheapest biscuits up from R6.49 to R6.99. When food inflation happens the private sector support government employee salaries which is a substantial amount. The poor suffer the most of course and us middle class too

I have had the unfortunate experience of going to this Checkers 2x in the last two months. What a nightmare - what terrible service at the counters for Electricity etc. long queue's - staff milling about and talking and laughing - customer care lady, WITH sash to say this - was asked by me - if she could assist here - and what was the point of having the title - if you don't help when there is a busy place - and she clucked at me and walked away. No one says hi good morning - no thank you - jostling, rude, and no eye contact - it's a horrible experience to go there for these 2 areas. I have not used the food tills so cannot comment on those - but I will never go back, I hope they respond but I think they won't based on the fact that if they select those staff for customer-facing roles - the management must have flaws too.
