We have experiencing outages of water in Hlahatsi and Tsolo in Katlehong. This matter has been occurring since last year November Every evening at 20:00 pm someone closes the water pipes and opens them at 05:15-05:30 am This causes us to be late for work because we have to wait for the pipes to be opened for us to have running water.I’ve called the municipality numerous times regarding the matter we are facing however we’ve never been assisted. What makes the situation worse is that we pay for water every month and we have tenants who struggle with flushing the toilet and using the shower to go to work Each time I call ,a request gets logged and they close the case without resolving the matter Case number: 1360 This is very concerning and frustrating Water is a basic need and I don’t know how we are expected to live or we probably expected to accept the situation Other sections don’t experience any of this because those mentioned sections in Katlehong

Our household has been without electricity for 9 days, while surrounding houses have power. I have logged the fault with the Ekurhuleni call centre multiple times and now have three reference numbers. Every follow-up results in either being told a technician is on the way or that the case has been closed without the issue being resolved. I also attempted to get help via Twitter/X, with no response. On Friday, I physically went to the Benoni offices (7th floor), where my details were taken and I was promised assistance, but no technician has attended to date. We pay our rates and services every month, yet we are being denied a basic service. I would like to know how long residents are expected to wait for a single-house power failure to be resolved. So annoying that we have to suffer like this while their homes have power without issues. This matter requires urgent escalation. City of Ekurhuleni.

Subject: Dispute of Abnormally High Water Consumption and Request for Investigation Account Number: 3313029759 Meter Number: 23090843 Dear Sir / Madam, I Gugulethu Petunian Mnguni, hereby wish to formally report and dispute the unusually high water consumption reflected on my municipal account (Account Number: 3313029759) for the property situated at: 19809 Gaba Street, E****wa Ext 24 The property was purchased in June 2025, and ownership was transferred on the 13 August 2025. Since taking occupation, our household water usage has been very minimal, limited mainly to toilet flushing and light cleaning. There is no irrigation, no excessive usage, and no change in household size that would justify the current charges. However, my latest municipal statement dated 24 December 2025 reflects an interim water consumption of 57 kL, resulting in a total amount payable of R23,953.00. This level of consumption is not possible for our household and is completely inconsistent with our actual usage. To further investigate this matter on our side, we have conducted our own monitoring and noted the following: From the time the first meter photo was taken yesterday until the next reading, our water meter shows a total usage of 7,128 units(I will attach the pictures our meter is blue ) For comparison, our next-door neighbour’s meter reflects a usage of only 1,581 units for a similar period(I will attached photo of next door the meter is black in colour) This significant discrepancy further supports our concern that the billed consumption is incorrect. In addition, we have: Closely monitored the municipal meter readings over consecutive periods; Ensured that all taps and water outlets were closed when not in use; Inspected the yard and visible plumbing for leaks; Confirmed that there are no visible or known leaks on the property. Despite these checks, the meter readings continue to increase at a rate that does not correspond with our actual water usage. This raises serious concern about: A possible faulty or incorrectly functioning water meter; A possible undetected underground leak; Or an incorrect estimation or billing error on the account. In light of the above, I kindly request the following: A formal investigation into the water meter (Meter No. 23090843); A meter test and replacement if the meter is found to be faulty; A review and adjustment of the disputed water charges; That the account be placed on hold to prevent penalties, interest, or disconnection while the dispute is under investigation. Please note that I will be attaching photographic evidence of the meter readings to support this dispute. I am willing to cooperate fully and make the property accessible for inspection if required. I trust that this matter will receive urgent attention, as the charges reflected are neither reasonable nor affordable based on our actual water consumption. Yours faithfully,

Good morning Saze Sasha la Ekurhuleni Emandleni Squatter Camp..we having a big problem regarding the waste collection of which am not to sure what is the reason behind that..Where I reside at Emandlen Squatter Camp Wattville Benoni it's in Ward 30 the garbage is not been collected it's been months now..it's is so filthy for the first time in my life I see such a filthy place .what surprises me the most is that stead around our informal settlement the waste is been collected normal ..only us as squatter camp dwellers we not receiving that prevelage.. because we tried to engage with the ward council that before the waste was collected with no issues what went wrong?he's response was the municipality does not have money 🤑..we also tried to engage with the waste department they will only tell you we fix it but still..so I don't understand if the municipality does not have money for only Emandlen Squatter Camp why the other surrounded areas waste is been collected?the likes of Actonville, Wattville and Leachville..it's only the squatter camps that the municipality don't have money surprisingly..our area is in a very bad condition no one can stay in a stinking area like that one because of waste I don't want even want to mention the rates in that area they can eat you alive..or they waiting for the rates to do some damages before they act...this so sad to our black disadvantaged community. What is going on with our councilor's or is it the waste department to be blamed because we tried to engage with the both parties but the is no solution..I call upon the MMC to just come and do the site visit once in your life time and see for your self if that a good condition to leave people in?just once! ..this is a very bad situation we leaving in .no one deserves this kind of situation since we started voting in 1994..since we calling our nation as free! From what?if we can't be provided with the small essential services . I call upon all Ekurhuleni municipal stakeholders to intervien on our behalf .. this is not life ..this is not how we expecting to be treated as informal settlements dwellers.I cry out loud for help!any help can make changes in our lives and our children..help!help!

Good day Near the end of the year again as other months over and over there is no water on the East rand in Homestead, Sunnyridge and Gerdview, and the water tankers are not enough everything runs dry, it's very difficult and on holidays it's like this, how is next year going to be, every weekend this year we had no electricity and no water. Our deep freezers are empty and so are our fridges as we can't live a happy structural life here, and it gets harder and harder and all the Ekurhuleni or Rand water state is waiting until it comes on. This is hard and sad and it might get worse as community and ourselves have never seen a silver lining at all.
