My family and I had a deeply upsetting experience at Cradle Moon in December 2025. We paid the hiking fee on arrival and had been on the premises for less than 10 minutes. As the venue does not cater for Halal food, we were eating our own halal food in the parking area. We are Muslim, and eating halal food is a religious requirement for us. Two individuals who identified themselves as managers approached us and told us we were not allowed to eat there. We calmly explained our situation, but instead of responding respectfully, they became hostile and vulgar. We were told that if we wanted to eat halal food, we should “go somewhere else,” and were aggressively instructed to leave the premises. As we were leaving, the managers swore at us, and they attempted to provoke a physical confrontation. We felt threatened, unsafe, and humiliated. Despite not using any facilities or participating in any activities, our request for a refund of R800 was refused, and we were told to leave immediately. This treatment felt discriminatory and racially motivated, with no regard for our religious beliefs. After the incident, I found several online reviews describing similar hostile and discriminatory behaviour at this establishment, which suggests this is not an isolated incident. This experience left us distressed and shaken. I would strongly caution others, particularly people from minority or religious communities, to be aware of how they may be treated at Cradle Moon

On 25 December 2025, my family and I visited Cradle Moon Game Lodge. We purchased hiking tickets and then returned to our car to get water, while the children were having a small snack in the parking area, An employee approached us and told us that we were not allowed to eat or drink anything on the premises. We explained that we had visited about two years ago and were informed at that time we were allowed to eat because they dont cater halaal The employee then called other staff members who said they were managers. We tried to explain that we are Muslim and only eat halaal food, which is not catered for at the lodge, and that we also needed water before going on a hike. Unfortunately, the staff were extremely rude and dismissive. One of the guys even told us that we should go somewhere else, the one guy even said we can post it on Facebook He doesnt care Despite the situation, they refused to refund our money and told us to leave the lodge. We did not go hiking at all and were only on the premises for approximately 20 minutes. As we were leaving through the gate, the same staff members were standing there swearing at us. One of the women made an obscene gesture (showing her middle finger). There behavior was shocking —They were rude, arrogant, and completely unprofessional especially the one woman named Shante. There was no way to have a calm or respectful conversation with any of the staff involved This was a very unpleasant and disappointing experience, We were treated very badly We will be referring this matter to the authorities as well.

A Deeply Disappointing and Hurtful Experience at Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge Our recent visit to Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge turned out to be one of the worst experiences we've ever had. We were incredibly excited to bring our family visiting from London for a peaceful day out—just a simple hike and coffee at a place we’ve always loved and supported. Upon arrival, we got out of the car with water for the hike and some light snacks in the kids’ hands. A staff member driving a golf cart politely informed us that no outside food or drinks were allowed and that we should purchase from the on-site shop. Fair enough—we respected that and began putting everything back into the car. However, what followed was shocking and completely unacceptable. A woman named Shante (Name given to me by management) came running out of the shop while we were still in the parking lot and aggressively told us: “Go from here! We don’t need people like you here. Just go.” This was said in front of our young children, who were frightened and confused. We were stunned—not only by the hostility but also the blatant disregard for basic respect and hospitality. She then turned around and walked back inside as if nothing had happened. We tried to speak to her inside the store to understand what the issue was, but she completely ignored us, mumbling to herself while cleaning bikes at the back. She refused to engage with us, and her behavior felt deeply prejudiced and racially motivated. We felt attacked, unwelcome, and humiliated. Thankfully, we managed to speak to someone in management, who took down a formal complaint and assured us the matter would be escalated to the owner. While we appreciated his professionalism, the damage was already done. As South Africans, we strive to show our guests the best our country has to offer. This experience was not only embarrassing but distressing, and it painted a horrible picture for our family from abroad. Cradle Moon needs to seriously re-evaluate how it trains its staff—particularly those working at the front lines of customer service. No family, no visitor, and certainly no child should be subjected to that kind of treatment.

I have contacted the restaurant in order to obtain closing times of the kitchen, we were told that the kitchen only closes at 7pm. When we arrived at 15h40 we were told that the kitchen closes at 16h00. We did not even ordered something to drink as our table was still covered with crumbs and spillage from the previous quests, so we left. When we requested the paper to be signed we were informed that we had to pay R50 pp in order to get out of the gate. We were wrongly informed by the closing times and we were there for a maximum of 30minutes, dissatisfied and still had to pay the R50pp. This place has such a bad review rating they might aswell close theyre doors.

WIll never return to this venue, total *******. No signage prior too entering boom gate too this lodge stating R50.00 per person entrance fee. Only a small little sign once inside that one misses when you arrive, as such in our case. After having had a refreshment at the outside venue costing us R52.00. We then headed to the exit boom gate and were refused exit because we had not paid the entrance fee. After speaking too the manager Hans via phone, he instructed us to return too the main reception and pay before we could exit, which we were forced to do. We mentioned that we would never go back again, to which he rep**** this was entirely up to us. This was meant to be a fun experience and morning out, turning into a unpleasant experience. Hans, you can eat my sock !!!
