I took my little girl (cat) to this vet that we have known for years. She wasn’t eating she was throwing up she was very sick. He gave het antibiotics for a tooth infection. A day later when we got home she was cold she was just laying on the floor very weak, we phoned them the only response we got was we can’t wait for you bring her in tomorrow. We decided to take her to another vet on the spot, she is admitted with dehydration, liver damaged and white blood cells that are very low. The doctor gave us one look and said he is very worried and he can’t give us good news, he added it will be a miracle if she survives the night. My problem is the vet didn’t take his time to examine her correctly he listened to her heart and looked at her gums and decided itself just a normal gum infection. Where the other vet took her temperature which was so low he was shocked. He didn’t take the time to tell us he is struggling to get a pulse, where the other vet immediately told us he is struggling to get a pulse and once again told us it looks very bad. He immediately told us he is admitting her to do blood work, scans etc. I’m very disgusted and disappointed to how my baby was treated and how a vet couldn’t take his time to examine her throughly. I will never go back to this place!

We have been taking our pets to Dr James for ages and I would recommend him over and over. We recently lost our fur baby after an operation due to a complication after the fact which was no fault of his, but he fought hard to save her and gave us updates constantly between the operation and when she crossed the rainbow bridge. He treated us with such compassion and empathy. There are very few vets left like Dr James. Dr James, we and our families will keep supporting you with all our animals!

WARNING to Other Pet Owners I am deeply heartbroken and disappointed with the treatment my dog received at Doornpoort Veterinary on 19 November 2025. My dog was severely injured after an accident, and we rushed him to this clinic at around 07:45. What happened next was, in my view, a shocking lack of urgency and care for an obvious emergency situation. Despite the vet openly suspecting a stomach rupture — a life-threatening condition — he told me he “did not see death,” which gave me a false sense of reassurance. Instead of acting immediately, we waited nearly two hours before X-rays were finally done around 10:00. Even then, the vet informed me that he would only operate the NEXT DAY, despite confirming multiple fractures and serious internal injury. At no point did the vet communicate how critical the situation really was. No emergency surgery was considered. No referral was suggested. Nothing was treated as urgent. As my dog’s condition worsened, I felt completely let down, confused, and increasingly desperate. I had to phone around myself to find another vet who could help. Sadly, he passed away later that afternoon at around 15:20, before the second clinic could even begin treatment. I understand that accidents happen and that outcomes cannot always be changed — but the lack of immediate action, urgency, and clear communication from this clinic is something I will never forget. I am sharing this review to warn others: if your pet is in a true emergency, please make sure you take them somewhere equipped and willing to treat emergency cases immediately. My experience here cost me precious hours and ultimately my dog’s life. He deserved better. And so do other pets.

Dr James Davies is the best vet I ever met! We have two female Bullies, and he has been treating them since they were 8 weeks. Recently my one female was sick and he treated her in intensive care for 3 weeks with great success. He is very reasonably in his fees and I would recommend him to everyone in the Montana / Doornpoort / Pretoria North area.

I wish i can add no stars but unfortunately you have to. I had a baby Girl Marmoset ****** just 7 weeks of age and took her to DR James and hê then took a look at her and sed she has an infection in the eye but she was still eating and just little stomach cramps and he then gave her an antibiotic injection and about 30 min later she does not want to eat and she started behaving funny, its like she was in a trans she doesn't open her eyes when she walks she doesn't sleep and when she does walk she just stops and fall a sleep for 3 seconds and walks again. I then called the vet to tell him what is going and what she is doing and reacting and all they told me is that is just a after reaction of the injection and i should bring het back the next day. She got worse and worse till the next day she passed away before we can get her to the vet. I then called them to tell them she had just died and i want a explanation on what happen. Hê did not care about what happen just said sorry to hear but wasn't his fault and hê had nothing to do with it. She got worse after the visit at Dr James And he made a wrong diagnosis and he is the reason for the death of our little baby Marmoset Lina. She sufferd so much and i trusted Dr James and now our little Lina is dead because of him. She is now at onderstepoort Animal Clinic for a Reason of Death. I am reporting him at the SAVC just wating for the results. This DR James Should not work on any animal because hê doesn't care what hê is doing and should lose his license. Hê is the biggest arrogant guy ever. Does not even take the blame for what hê has done and doesn't even make the right decision on what hê does. I hope someday hê gets what hê deserve. Now my baby Lina is gone and she was the cuteste Marmoset ever with the biggest eye's and now she got taken away from us. Would never support this vet again and i will take it as far as i can to take his license away from him. May baby Lina rest in peace and my her soul be with us for ever. ChatGPT said: I’m so sorry for your loss. I can help you rewrite the review to ensure your emotions are conveyed clearly and respectfully. Here's a revised version: I truly wish I could give zero stars, but unfortunately, that’s not an option. I brought my baby Marmoset ******, just 7 weeks old, to Dr. James. He examined her and said she had an eye infection. She was still eating and only had some minor stomach cramps. He administered an antibiotic injection, and about 30 minutes later, she stopped eating and began behaving strangely. She seemed disoriented, walking with her eyes closed, and occasionally stopping to fall asleep for a few seconds before continuing to walk. I called the vet immediately to report what was happening, and they told me it was likely just a reaction to the injection and advised me to bring her in the next day. Unfortunately, she only worsened overnight and passed away before I could get her back to the vet. I called Dr. James to inform him of her passing and ask for an explanation. His response was dismissive, merely offering his "sorry to hear" and claiming it wasn’t his fault, stating he had no responsibility in the matter. Her condition only worsened after the visit, and I believe Dr. James made a wrong diagnosis. His actions and lack of proper care led to the death of our precious little Marmoset, Lina. She suffered greatly, and I trusted him to help her, but instead, he failed her. Her death is currently being investigated at Onderstepoort Animal Clinic, and I am in the process of reporting Dr. James to the SAVC. This vet should not be working with animals. He demonstrated a lack of concern and made poor decisions that led to her death. His arrogance and refusal to take responsibility are unacceptable. I will continue to pursue justice for Lina and ensure that no other animal suffers at his hands. Lina was the sweetest, most adorable little Marmoset, with the biggest eyes. She was taken from us far too soon, and we will never forget her. I will never support this vet again and will take further action to try to ensure that he is held accountable for his actions. Rest in peace, sweet Lina. Your spirit will forever be with us.

Vandag is ek baie teleurgestel in Doornpoort Diere Hospitaal. Ek bring altyd my babas soentoe as iets gebeur en hulle help altyd my so mooi maar vandag is ek geskok.

I rushed my cat Big Shmuck to Doornpoort Animal clinic today after she appeared to be circling and became lame in her bag legs. After examination and diagnosis Big Shmuck was given meds and appeared much calmer. Thank you Dr James for always setting my mind at ease with all my furry paw-kids over the years ... The team are always friendly ... patient and show such care for both patients and paw parents. Thankyou
