The dealership was dishonest and installed incorrect parts on my BMW, I kept getting stuck, incurring expensive towing fees. I was lenient when they overcharged me for the parts, only to find out when I went to BMW that they had installed incorrect parts. I found Noel the owner, to be disrespectful , rude and lacking integrity. I would not recommend anyone to use them. zero stars!!

If only we saw Craig B’s review before I took my car to DR Automotive for a coolant problem!!! What started off well, quickly turned into a nightmare. Two “new” radiators later and 5 visits to the workshop, with reports of then this, then that and we have a leaking radiator again, all of this within a 7 month period! Is this coincidence or just that the place can’t be trusted? We even serviced the car with them but what we are questioning now is what other shortcuts have been taken that we don’t of and will haunt us in future? Our experience have been similar to Craig’s and what makes it worse is that Noel is as Craig says, dismissive when confronted with their workmanship - it is NEVER DR Automotive’s problem, it is always the customer’s problem! Poor service is one thing but to take no responsibility for it is another!

I reviewed DR Automotive in a previous post, and subsequently, one month later, the transponder repair which had been done at DR Automotive, began to malfunction once again. I asked to be referred to the contractor that he had used to do the work previously so that they could look into the issue and advise on the way forward. Noel did not reply to me, and responded to one of my staff members that since I'd placed a review on Hello Peter, he had no interest or obligation to assist me. I can understand that having a bad review is frustrating, but not only has Noel been unwilling to remedy the previous situation, but he has chosen to not allow any reasonable followup on any work done that would be under some basic warranty. I thought it prudent to warn other consumers of the type of assurance they will have with any work done on their vehicle by DR Automotive.

When Noel bought DR Automotive from a legend of the industry, who had serviced my car for decades, I retained the servicing of several of my vehicles there. I have not been happy with the pricing or the general explanations for work that is required, and in a recent incident, I queried a quote for a Corsa bakkie that had been sent in for a faulty transponder. Along with the transponder repair, I was advised to replace the front brakes as well as service the vehicle as the oil was apparently "dirty", a total of R7740.00. I had recently (December 2023) spent R28,310.00 repairing the vehicle from an overheating breakdown, that apparently needed the head reconditioned, cam belt changed and included oil and air filters, so I queried the need to re-service the vehicle so soon. The mechanic agreed and removed the service from the bill reducing it to R5320.00. I agreed for the front brakes to be done, but queried the cost of the transponder repair. I asked whether (according to the quote), and "new key chip and box" was necessary, to which I was told that the work had already been done. I asked that the cost of this item be reviewed as it seemed excessive and somewhat unnecessary. The voice note says this: "So on the key side of things, I had to get a new key, a new chip, and a new key reader box, and then all the programming to put in the new key". I then spoke to a company that deals with vehicle transponders, and watched some videos online, and worked out 2 things: 1) the box did not have to be "replaced", all that was required was that a chip had to be replaced in the key (approx R250.00), and the computer box then reprogrammed to accept the new chip. 2) I could have had someone come to my residence and repair this for approximately R1000.00. I spoke to JP about this, and he agreed to look into it for me. It turns out the original key and box remain with the vehicle. When I queried this, I was told by Noel, that he runs a business, he is not reviewing the price, that I had approved the quote, and that I should collect my vehicle and pay up. Noel later contacted me directly, and said that it had cost him R2200.00 to repair the transponder and he had only charged me R1000.00 on top of that, and he wasn't changing the bill. Noel was unreasonably assertive and rude, especially given the longstanding and expensive experience I have had with his business, and the fact that I had been deceived on the quote, invoice and voice notes from the company. I need to be able to trust that my mechanic is not quoting for unnecessary work on my car in order to bulk up the bills (re-servicing a car that was serviced 2 months ago), and I need to trust that the work done is fairly charged for and necessary (quoting for and then invoicing for the replacement of a computer box was not true). I feel justified in being angry about this, especially as the mechanic admitted that the box was not replaced, and that it had not been accurately represented on the invoice or the quote. The owner's reaction to this has been rude and dismissive, and he was quick to tell me to take my business elsewhere, which I have no hesitation in doing just that. The owner has continued to harass me via text messages, threaten me with legal action, undermine me to a staff member who collected the vehicle from him, and threatened to retaliate with a report on my business. I hope that this review saves someone else from a similar experience at DR Automotive. .

Noel is a slick talker at DR Automotive, but beware of the silky tongue. Noel bought this business from a legend of the industry, who had serviced my car for decades. I maintained my servicing since then, but the prices have been nothing short of exorbitant. I recently queried an invoice that included a “key transponder and computer box replacement” and then found out that I could have the work done for a third of the price I was charged, and that only the transponder chip required replacement, the rest was reprogramming. When I raised this with Noel, he was rude and dismissive and tried to give me a lesson in business management and profitability. I have a simple rule: don't do business with people who use rive to be *************. Especially in these days where the work required in vehicles is complicated, you need to choose someone who won’t rip you off for your relative ignorance. DR Automotive is not a business you can trust, I will never do business there again. To anyone who runs a workshop though, offer JP a job, he’s a good mechanic, despite his boss’s unsavoury business practises.

I recently had my car checked at DR Automotive mechanical workshop, and I couldn't be happier with the level of customer service I received. From the moment I walked in, JB was friendly and attentive, making me feel valued as a customer. He took the time to listen to my concerns and thoroughly explained the repairs needed, ensuring I understood the process and costs involved. The communication throughout the checks was exceptional. He kept me updated on the progress of my vehicle and promptly informed me of any unexpected issues that arose, providing clear explanations and options for resolution. This transparency gave me confidence in their expertise and integrity. Finally, when I picked up my car, it was cleaned inside and out, a thoughtful touch that exceeded my expectations. Overall, DR Automotive mechanical workshop exemplified outstanding customer service. Their professionalism, communication, and dedication to customer satisfaction set them apart. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of reliable automotive repairs
