At the Beginning of February 2017, I went to see Dr Jacques Malan to have skin tags removed from my chest and while I was there asked him to take a look at the tiny little area of rough skin I had on my face no bigger that a match stick head. He examined the area and said it was a precancerous liaison and that he would remove it using Crycotherapy which is using liquid nitrogen to freeze the tissue so that it burns it off, he said I also had Millia which were little white bumps on my face that are not harmful at the same time using the same method. During the procedure I did notice that after he had burned of the little rough area of skin and then a few of the Milia one of them being on the side of my jaw, he changed the nozzle on the machine to a smaller thinner one and carried on. He said he changed the nozzle because it was easier to use on delicate areas such as on the side of the nose. I didn’t think twice about it at the time and trusted that he knew exactly what he was doing and that in 10 days time the scabs that forms would fall of the the skin would return to be smooth and flush with the rest of my skin with no trace of what he had done just like he assured me at the time. By the following day the areas he had treated became inflamed red and swollen and started to look infected, as I was obviously concerned, I made another appointment and when to see him. He prescribed a set of antibiotic and some cream and said that it would sort its self out I a couple of days. So I completed the co**** but it never cleared up as he said it would. The areas actually started to look really bad, red and inflamed and was seeping a pusey looking liquid at this stage. I went to the scar clinic to get a second opinion on this, as I was so worried that the areas he treated with the liquid nitrogen would scar. It was confirmed that this was not normal and that if not treated that infact this could cause permanent scars on my face. So again I had to go and see him and he again put me on a further set of antibiotics and this time said he would give me a few sessions twice per week with the infrared lights to help with healing and that it would clear it up in no time and the face heals quickly and I would have no scars. So I underwent the treatment to try and repair the damaged he caused to my face but I was left with deep round holes in my face on my cheeks where he had done the treatment. I tried to reach him by phone but could not get through to the rooms, so sent him a private message on facebook about my condition and about the scarring caused and asked him what else could be done to help with the scarring caused, he said he would use his Broadband light machine which would sort it out and would not charge me for the treatment, But that after that I would have to pay for any further treatments done and not to send him anymore message via facebook. I had to pay for all the consultations and creams he prescribed and the next Broadband light treatments that he did, he also said I would have to cover the areas with plaster 24 hours a day until the area healed and the scarring disappeared. When I told him how upset I was as I was so concerned it would have permanent scarring on my face, he said that because I was touching and scratching the area this is the reason there was scarring and that I was a very emotionally highly strung person and that it would be fine and I would have minimal scarring. The areas that are scarred show the round holes where he burnt me and show no evidence that it was because I scratched them like this at all!! I never went back to Dr Malan as I felt intimidated by him and did not feel comfortable and did not trust that he knew what he was doing, I did try call him but he did not return my calls. So I went to the scar clinic for a series of treatments to try and help with the scarring left behind ranging from deep micro needling on a monthly basis to having collagen therapy to try stimulate collagen. This cost a small fortune together with all the scar treatment creams etc that had to be used to help. Although there was some improvement I still left pitted ice pick looking holes in my face where he had used this machine and looked as if I had suffered with server acne which left these kind of scars. This whole situation from never having any kind of scars from anything, to now looking horrendous did affect my confidence dramatically. At the time I was trying to find employment but because of this just did not have to confidence to go out looking like I did which he was aware of because I told him this. I decided to go see my GP who referred me to another highly recommended Dermatologist who has been treating the scarring since November 2017. I have had everything done from needling to collagen stimulating treatment, CO2 laser, Fraxel and Fractora which is extremely painful every month for a year to help with the scarring that Dr Malan left on my face. With everyone that I have been to the general consensus is that Dr Malan made a mistake and went to deep by using the wrong sized nozzle to burn the areas, which he did because I clearly remember him changing it halfway through and the other areas he burnt and in those areas you see no trace of scarring. Although the areas have improved dramatically, I will have to continue to have treatment but even then it will only improve up to 90 percent of the scar and i will probably have to go to a plastic surgeon and even then it will never been completely gone and I did not even go in to have this done to me and I had to pay, it is just not right!!I have left messages for Dr Malan to email me my medical history and the photographs he took of the scarred areas a number of times and he still has not sent me anything, but keeps saying he is answering my letter and I will get a response in due co****. I have asked for my medical histories and photographs from the other the******s and the dermatologist I have been to to try and help with the scarring. All in all the has all cost me in the region of about R100 000.00 so far which I really cannot afford especially that I could not find work looking like a did at that time and could have done better things with my money I had to spend it fixing this Dr’s mistake!! I am angry and upset and it has caused my confidence to take a serious knock that is for sure. I

Exceptionally unprofessional bunch. Appointment at 11:30, arrived just before to find 5 people in the waiting room. Dr Malan was running over an hour late. Practice does not bother to phone and advise patients and they just shrugged when I complained. The lack of respect for patients and their time by operating like a sausage machine would me me think twice before I visit.
