Selling cars with severe defects and taking NO responsibility
On Saturday, 29 March 2025, the vehicle began emitting a loud clanging noise while I was driving. I was close to home and returned immediately. On Monday, 31 March, I attempted to take the vehicle to VW Menlyn for inspection. Unfortunately, the vehicle broke down en route and had to be towed by my insurer. Following an assessment by VW Menlyn, it was revealed that the car had previously undergone substandard repairs — specifically to the left-side drive shaft and ball joint. Non-standard parts appear to have been used, and the inner CV joint eventually came loose, resulting in serious damage to the gearbox. The repair quote provided by Francois (Service Manager) is approximately R191,000. We are extremely concerned and disappointed by this situation. This vehicle was purchased from an authorised Volkswagen dealership, and we were assured that it had undergone all appropriate checks. There was no disclosure of any previous accident damage or non-standard repairs. In fact, we were led to believe the vehicle was in excellent condition.

After the breakdown on 29 March 2025 and the subsequent findings by VW Menlyn — including the discovery of substandard repairs and non-standard parts — I was understandably disappointed and concerned. However, Rory’s involvement brought immediate reassurance. His willingness to take ownership of the situation, investigate thoroughly, and ensure that all necessary repairs were handled quickly and professionally, did not go unnoticed. Thanks to his intervention, the vehicle is now being repaired with genuine Volkswagen parts, and clear communication has been maintained throughout the process. I’m especially grateful for the integrity and commitment shown to resolving the matter in a way that prioritised customer satisfaction. It’s rare to see this level of accountability and hands-on support from dealership leadership, and I believe it deserves to be recognised. Thank you again to Rory and the team for restoring confidence in the service and support behind the Volkswagen name.
