We have been experiencing an ongoing water crisis in Newlands, Durban since 2024, and it has become extremely frustrating for residents in our area. The water supply is highly unreliable. Some days the water goes off for hours, and other times we are left without water for multiple days at a time. Many of us come home from work and school expecting to carry on with normal daily routines, but we cannot even do basic things like shower, cook meals, wash dishes, or clean our homes because there is simply no water. Residents have had to start storing water in buckets, bottles, and containers just to get through the day, but that is often not enough, especially for families. Water tankers are supposed to assist during outages, but they hardly come to the area, leaving residents to struggle and find alternatives on their own. What makes the situation even more frustrating is that there always seems to be a different explanation for the outages. One day we are told a pipe is being repaired, another day the reservoir is empty, and other times there is no clear communication at all. These explanations happen so frequently that they no longer make sense to residents who have been dealing with this problem for over a year. It is unacceptable for a community to live under these conditions for such a long period of time. Access to water is a basic necessity, not a luxury. Residents in Newlands deserve reliable service, proper communication, and real solutions instead of constant disruptions and unclear explanations. We urge the municipality to take this issue seriously, improve infrastructure, and ensure that residents have a consistent and dependable water supply. Living like this is not sustainable, and the community deserves better.

Very bad service from Ethekwini water and sanitation. Our house had no water for 8 whole days and with numerous calls and follow ups theres still no response or any action from the Ethekwini municipality people. How can anyone survive over a week with no water? Service is 0/5 honestly

Very unhappy, waiting for more than a month for assistance. I Reported a burst manhole in the beginning of September and now it's the end of October but never received any assistance,we pay for services we don't receive.

You would think that having an app will improve their efficiency and effectiveness but that would be just too too much to ask from them. The globe, literally the whole world is aware that we have a resources issue hence the need to take care of what we have like for example water. We have been reporting a leaking pipe since July and last week they decided to close the case without even checking if the job was done. The next think my bill will be saying I owe thousands when infect its the lazy municipality workers who couldn't be bothered to follow up on a report that is likely to affect the neighborhood. These are the latest reference numbers for anyone who might care that we are spilling water all over the street and might want to do something before we are forced to water shed, since that's a thing now. Ref:F250829/1409 closed with no work done. And Ref:F250920/1128 that I just logged.

Got a whatsapp message from someone who claims to be Inspector Msomi from ethekwini water, showing me a photo of my house from google maps and a notice stating that they need to install water restrictors. he then asked me for R300 so that he will not proceed. I tried calling the ***** department and national call centre number but nobody answers.
