Two weeks ago I went for a cut and the job was not done right. I decided to go back today and then I got a barber that is basically a trainee . The other barber had to step in and fix. They just did more damage. After styling my hair they tried to cut it again. They did a horrible job!!! I thought they are experience people that are qualified, clearly I was wrong. Use to be a huge supporter. Never again!!!!

Had a haircut at Menlyn Maine, usual spot. When paying I had to pay an additional charge because this barber hat his own price and does not charge the standard rates. He did mutter something about a master something but I just wanted to pay and get out before I said something not so nice. I don’t care how well you are or think you qualified, the advertised price is the advertised price. Imagine landing in Cape Town after a flight and being charged an additional levy because the Pilot that flew the aircraft had a higher qualification that the average pilot.

I had a 1pm appointment at Gary Rom Bedford Centre on Saturday, 14 June 2025 and ended up finishing just before 7pm due to being left in the hands of a stylist that had no idea about what she was doing. First, the stylist was unable to assist me at my scheduled time due to her inexperience with colour. After 50 mins of waiting for their master stylist to become available, I was finally seen to. The master stylist attended to my colour and had to leave before it was completed, therefore leaving me with the original stylist that clearly had no experience with colour. My colour had to be done all over again after the result was miles off the required colour I had asked for. Worst still, my hair is now seriously damaged. Adding to this, I had asked for face framing layers and the stylist could not achieve the cut. The assistant was trying to tell the stylist that the cut was “choppy” but the stylist was panicked and I had to stop her before she continued cutting more off. As there was no other experienced stylist in, I was told by the assistant that their master stylist will call me when she returns to work to correct the cut but still no word. I had paid nearly R2500 for an unprofessional service, dismal cut unbecoming of a professional stylist and a hair colour that I’ve had to settle for just to get out of that salon. I’ve trusted Gary Rom salons for more than 10 years and it’s sad to see that they’ve compromised their quality by chancing their clients hair with stylists that clearly lack up to date training and professional skills. Although the stylist was friendly, this does not make up for paying clients having to compromise their crowning glory. I was panicked for nearly 6 hours at the salon and had to hold back tears.

Terrible Service, Empty Promises, and R13,440 Down the Drain – Avoid Gary Rom Brooklyn I had hair extensions done at Gary Rom Brooklyn in January last year, and it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The quality of the extensions was atrocious – completely unacceptable for the price I paid. When I raised my concerns, I was assured by Jacky, Gary Rom’s personal assistant and representative of the head office, that I would receive a full refund. I even returned the extensions in good faith, based on this promise. That trust was badly misplaced. Just a few days later, I was informed by Gary Rom himself that there would be no refund, as the Brooklyn franchise was apparently shutting down the week after 30/03/2014, and the franchisee (conveniently) never made any commitments. This was after I had already returned the product. In other words, I was strung along with empty promises, left without the product, and ****** of R13,440. To add insult to injury, when I posted about my experience on Facebook to warn others, I was threatened with legal action and even imprisonment if I didn’t take my posts down. This is how Gary Rom Hairdressing handles customer complaints: with threats and ************, instead of accountability. I still have proof of their promises and evidence that I returned the extensions. What I don’t have – to this day – is my money. I urge anyone considering Gary Rom Brooklyn (or any Gary Rom franchise) to think twice. Behind the shiny branding is a business model that appears to rely on misleading customers, dodging responsibility, and silencing those who speak out. Absolutely disgraceful. No wonder Gary Rom Salons, particularly Brooklyn Mall, are dead whenever I pass any.

Average hair styling! Be careful to disagree with the barber. I was refused to get haircut for 5 Year old because I did. Nobody likes to be insulted for no good reason, there are plenty of options.

I was charged 380 rand for a Fade that was not blended , the equipment hadn’t been cleaned after the previous client, I did not get a shave nor did I wash my hair. When I asked what I was paying 380 rand for the answer I was given was that “ that Barber charges his own prices “ …. Probably the most expensive terrible experience I’ve had at a so called “ Barbershop/ Hairdresser “
