The worst restaurant experience I've ever had in my 70+ years. Made reservations for 6 for lunch. Our table was set for 8, so they had to move us TWICE. Being seated beneath a loudspeaker blaring bad music; made conversation almost impossible. Four requests to turn the speaker down/off went ignored. We finally pulled the wire out of it so we could talk. Lunch took almost 4 hours - because there was only one waiter working numerous tables (including serving drinks and bussing dishes). To add insult to injury, the cost was almost twice what we spent for lunch the day before at a beautiful winery in Stellenbosch, which had far better food, service, and ambience.

Terrible service. I was served an alcoholic drink despite the waiter confirming 3 times that my drink was non alcoholic which I had requested. No bottled water available during a summer peak season service. Waiter seemed hungover. Slow service. A fly in our food. Horrible experience

Appallingly Grand! I could not get home fast enough to write a review on this place, simply appalling!!!! First you get into the car park in which you are charged R20, I get told that it is not linked to the restaurant which is a lie as there is nothing to see nor do other than the main entrance to the Grand Africa Café. Then you get welcomed by no less than four people, taken to our pre booked table (not the chosen one). A waiter pounces on us with food menu and ready to take our order (give us a break) Different size glasses for our MCC served warm with upright glasses, not tilted, you can imagine the result. Wine menu soaking wet.Had to ask for ice bucket placed first on the floor than on a chair. Starters and mains brought to us at the same time, something we rejected, of course. Why would a prawn cocktail served in half an avocado (not scooped)one prawn and a hint of sauce cost as much as R145? One of our guest had to wait for her main because hers has been given to the wrong table. A glass of wine was ordered by never arrived, so was cancelled just before the bill arrived. The only thing that's grand is the location, otherwise a place to wipe out of our memories for ever. Never in the five years in coming to Cape town for long stay, there a place to avoid for the life of you as the Grand Africa Café in Cape town (waterfront) By the way, our waiter was very embarrassed, polite, but has no waiting experience what so ever. I did not see any rats as mentioned in previous reviews, but maybe they got the message and moved on. Smart rodents!!!!
