A visit to Grande Provance Heritage Restaurant in Franschhoek <br> <br> A great weekend in Franschhoek was spoilt by a dinner at one of the wineries restaurants.<br> <br> It started with us asking for one of the wineries popular wines - Angels Tears, on the wine menu. We were told that they do not serve this at dinner, it is a picnic wine, then why put it on the wine list?<br> <br> The reality was that the only tears that followed were ours as a result of the bad service and average food. <br> <br> It goes like this...<br> We were placed outside in front of a fire on a 30 degree evening. The fire, almost out, was added to after our arrival and became a blazing bonfire adding another 20 degrees to the temperature. We asked to be moved. The waiter disappeared. We asked again to be moved and a lovely lady waiter, the only highlight to the visit, made it happen immediately. <br> <br> The food. What can we say, we had to ask the waiter to explain what and how the starter, main, tasters, aperitif, dessert were strung together. Strung together is probably how we would explain it as it seemed that most of the menu was created on the fly as the portions differed in size, the waiters never knew what was actually in each course.
