I had an outstanding amount of R1762 due to a doctor - monies which the medical aid did not cover. Sadly, I had changed my mobile number and only became aware of the amount due when this law firm sent me a letter of demand. I made an arrangement with the law firm to pay the amount off at R500 a month. To date I have paid R3000 and still owe R1461 due to them charging me every month for reminders R150 (despite my payments being made on the date as pre-arranged) interest and commission. They also charge a commission fee on top of the capital amount, interest and commission already charged..... Upon querying the charge for the reminders, I was advised that unless clients advise the firm that they do not want to receive reminders - this would be charged. This is deliberately misleading and not really questioned as you would not expect to receive a reminder unless you have defaulted on their payment arrangement. It was never questioned by me, as I knew I had paid on time and did not think for a minute I was actually being for charged for this despite the reminder being sent after I had paid my monthly amount and also sent proof of payment via email to the firm. Is this not ********* behaviour besides being daylight ******* and demonstrating pure greed and taking advantage of people in unfortunate circumstances. This matter has also being reported to The Legal Practise Council.
