I am a British National.
I have been discriminated against at a Growth Point Complex in New Germany.
I am registered as one of the Directors of a company that trades with Classic Trading at 31 Lanner Rd, New Germany, Durban
We have been trading with this company for years without incident.
Today I was refused entry as they would not recognize my valid British Drivers License as a means of Identification at the security entrance.
I was stopped by a guard named Eric. He took photos of my vehicle disc and asked for my license which I willingly provided. He said this is not acceptable.
I explained I am a foreign national having converted my old South African Licence in 2001 to my UK Licence . This license is valid internationally and I have used this in USA, Europe and several Countries globally.
He then wanted to to take a photo of me. I declined saying he is welcome to take photo of my Licence as its got my photo and contact details. I explained I am not comfortable with this. I referenced the POPI act and told him it is better to take a photo of my license.
He became arrogant like a "prefect" with a new badge.
I called his seniors at Easy Security and spoke to a manager name George Dube who also refused my entry.
He then put the phone down on me, which upset me as I was being delayed.
I thereafter called Classic Trading and notified them I was outside and I was being refused entry.
A gentleman came out and tried to reason with the security staff in vain.
Eventually the operations manager Mark Sprug from Easy Security drove up after 30mins of delays.
He was equally arrogant and uncooperative, claiming it was their process.
I explained I wrote Policies and Procedures for a Science college in UK and I am a retired Director of ICT for the college.
I explained that taking photos on a insecure platform is unwelcome and the appropriate procedure would have been to take a photo of the Drivers License.
The manager of Classic trading tried to reasons with Mr. Sparg who initially refused to give me his name and details.
I notified them I was recording and he became defensive and refused to speak. He was aggrieved saying its private property. I explained I was outside the property on the verge. I explained why is it any different when he refused a photo of him and an recording, defeating the ends of justice.
After a huge debate I decided to leave and explained to Classic Trading they have lost a huge customer.
Mr. Sparg and Mr Dube cannot be forgiven as they are in senior management of Easy Security.
I can appreciate for an ordinary security to misinterpret policies.
The manager of Classic was not pleased and said he has a problem with the security company declining his customer access for business.
I left and proceeded to another company and called other Directors of our company to notified them of my experience.
An hour later a get a call from George Dube from Easy Security claiming the call dropped technically. I disagreed as if the call dropped he would have called me back immediately not an hour later!
I explained myself and he related but said it was there process. I said it needs to change to stop discriminating against other nationalities.
There is no doubt in my mind I have been discriminated on by virtue of Region.
I reference CRE , South African Human Rights Commission and Hello Peter as my port of complaint.
It is simple, had I had a South African drivers Licence I would have been allowed access to trade.
Clearly I have been unfairly treated by Easy Security under the discrimatory policies and procedures of Growth Point. Aggrieved.
