We recently booked an Exclusive 5 Course Dinner with Canapés event at the Grub & Vine Norval Branch. Beautiful venue with decent food. My Waiter, Simba was excellent! However, the dedicated Events Co-ordinator, Mishka & subsequent Ops Manager inter-reaction with William was appalling. We were charged for an xtra guest we were not aware of despite a strict guest list at a distant venue no one can just rock up to. Perhaps an unknown Ghost showed up to enjoy a 5 course dinner + canapés! Despite previous arrangements for a different meal for the Photographer nothing was prepared. Agreed red wine price was increased by R145 per bottle on our Bill. Currently Management refusing to refund us for the Ghost Guest & red wine price overcharges amounting to over R2,000. Double charged for 12% Gratuity on drinks Bill but luckily refunded this portion only after several weeks of comms with William the Ops Manager & Mishka the Events Co-ordinator. The Bar ran out of stock of several drinks & no stock of simple drinks like Redbull on the night. Despite paying a pricey minimum spend charge for an Exclusive Themed Event there was a random couple that showed up for a booking & allowed to another area within the venue. Staff could not connect our music list to their music system on several platforms despite several prior arrangements made with Events Coordinator. Imagine a party without music! During this fiasco our dedicated Events Co-ordinator left the venue without a word after an hour into event without resolving the music issue. Now our calls & messages to the Ops Manager go unanswered but we were offered one 3 course dinner consolation. On account of our experience & overall poor event co-ordination & subsequent inept management treatment I would not recommend the Grub & Vine Norval for events! @mattmanningchef #GrubAndVine #FoodAndWine #CapeTownDining

Amazing location and atmosphere but very bad value for the fine dining experience it is trying to offer. The food is overpriced and I would not mind to pay this if it atleast tasted good. Really not worth spending the money.

I went to Grub and Vine end of September for an interview to speak to the manager Henry. The interview as to which he forgot about the first time, i was then contacted via videocall and asked to come in the week after. I went for the interview and was told by the manager Henry that I have the job as assistant manager for the new Grub and vine location and asked to come in to the main restaurant in Bree street for a shift. Was told after the shift that they will let me know when to go to the new restaurant and will keep in contact. After a month i contacted the manager Henry to ask when i should be at the new restaurant as to his reply " we wont be needing you" via text. After I was told I have the job. That is very unprofessional and missleading. Think I will need to contact my lawyer on what to do.

It was supposed to be a special celebratory meal for our family before we were to attend the graduation ceremony of our youngest daughter who flew in specialy from KZN. The food was not worth the price we paid. E.g. one really does not expect hake as the line fish on a supposedly fine-dining menu. The fish tasted very fishy so I question the freshness. The 1st waiter who served us, Tshebang, was very friendly and helpful but the waiter who took over from him was too talkative and trying to be matey with us while rushing us to order. Ordering wine was a problem. The website clearly states "no corkage but bring one buy one is acceptable" . We brought wine and then it turned out to be an issue...we had to send poor Tshebang to the manager? 2x and show a printscreen before they were willing to let us have our own wine. Then, whe we chose the "buy one" wine, it was not available. 2 of us ordered the chicken to be told by the too talkative waiter that he would have to go and check if chicken was available. We knew it should be available as one of the chefs were cleaning a whole bunch of chickens as we walked in. I could go on e/g that 2 of the plates were chipped. It was really not a good experience.. We were very disappointed and will not recommend Grub and Vine to anyone. What made it even worse was that we were the ONLY party in the main restaurant so it was not as if these things happened because of having to service many customers
