Incident at Happy Island in Krugersdorp I'm writing to express my shock and disappointment at the poor safety standards and inadequate response from the life guards at in Krugersdorp.
On 20 December 2024, my friend and I experienced a terrifying incident on one of the water slides (the blue, yellow and pink slide to be specific) . We tipped over while sitting on the double ring float and I knocked my head hard, almost drowning in the process. The life guards' response was appallingly slow, and when they finally arrived, they seemed completely unbothered by our ordeal.
Their lack of concern was staggering, with one of them even saying "it happens" as if that's an acceptable excuse for putting customers' lives at risk. The first aid provided was basic, and I was given Panado and a jelly - like substance ice pack, but the overall attitude towards our safety was alarming. Our ordeal was downplayed to an everyday occurance that can happen to anyone.
As a customer, I expect a certain level of safety and care especially because the head/brain is such a crucial part of the body. Happy Island failed miserably to provide that. I still have a pounding headache and my body is sore. I urge others to exercise extreme caution when visiting this water park.
Desired Resolution: I hope that Happy Island takes immediate action to address their safety concerns, provides proper training to their life guards, and ensures that customers receive the care and attention they deserve in emergency situations.
