My colleagues and I have been going to the Arniston Hotel for a writing break for years. The staff always give us a warm welcome and go out of their way to make us feel welcome. So we decided to try their sister hotel, Houw Hoek Hotel. It is beautifully located and we were impressed by the facilities. We actually considered having our next planning session in the beautiful conference venue. My colleague pertinently mentioned that we were coming to work here when she booked, and she was assured that it would be no problem. Yesterday we sat and worked in the empty dining hall, later had lunch there and continued to work, planning to stay at our table until dinner. At 15:20 we were asked by the restaurant manager, Jennifer, to leave "because they have to start getting ready for dinner". So we sat outside, and could see through the glass doors that there was no activity near the table where we sat; in fact nothing happened at all. However, there was a group that had lunch, and they were allowed to sit at their table, talking. This morning I was once again asked to leave. We are now on the veranda and looking at an empty dining room (where there are indeed two people sitting and working). I am bitterly disappointed in this inhospitality.
