In an effort to spoil, pamper and surprise my other half with a 'different' experience, I thought why not Illyria House.
The building is beautiful, however, it is old, very old and poorly kept.
We found cobwebs on curtains, broken chandeliers, repaired bedside lamps, etc, that's apart from the stuffy smell lingering everywhere.
The fancy honeymoon suite was old, needed a fresh and alive coat of paint, colors were depressing as they were all cream an beige but again it looked worse than it was because of the poorly maintained Victorian items.
Whilst sitting on the couch we heard the pitter patter of little feet, we had a rat in our room, yes a rat. Despite the huge commotion from my screaming, we still had to phone reception so that they send someone up. He couldn't get it and eventually couldn't find it.
I had to REQUEST another room, which was awful, the chandelier was not just hideous but broken and repaired poorly. The room was stuffy and poorly put together. The bed felt like it was as old as the house and the pillows, gosh, we were better off without any.
Dinner, goodness me! It was supposed to be romantic and amazing. It was awful. The seafood, crayfish in particular, was black, yes it had gone bad. Their silver cutlery accompanied every meal that had lemon juice making everything taste like chemicals served in a tin can.
I don't think I could be more disappointed
After complaining to the owner, we were offered a couples massage - yet again disappointing
We were put on two uncomfortable mobile massage beds, with damp towels in a tiny little sun room with no heating and trust me it was cold I am glad it was free because I wanted it over from the start.
Such an expensive disappointment
