I paid for a full body massage for myself and my sister (this was supposed to be a present for her). After the Dec holiday Illyria House did informed me that the the****** did not return after the holiday. I agreed to wait a while until she returns or for them to appoint someone new. It has now been more than a month and I sent two follow up e-mails with no return communication form their side. I also called twice without any satisfactory outcome. Today I called again and spoke to the receptionist - with all the other staff either sick or not available. This is very strange and very bad service. How can this be a four star business?

In an effort to spoil, pamper and surprise my other half with a 'different' experience, I thought why not Illyria House. The building is beautiful, however, it is old, very old and poorly kept. We found cobwebs on curtains, broken chandeliers, repaired bedside lamps, etc, that's apart from the stuffy smell lingering everywhere. The fancy honeymoon suite was old, needed a fresh and alive coat of paint, colors were depressing as they were all cream an beige but again it looked worse than it was because of the poorly maintained Victorian items. Whilst sitting on the couch we heard the pitter patter of little feet, we had a rat in our room, yes a rat. Despite the huge commotion from my screaming, we still had to phone reception so that they send someone up. He couldn't get it and eventually couldn't find it. I had to REQUEST another room, which was awful, the chandelier was not just hideous but broken and repaired poorly. The room was stuffy and poorly put together. The bed felt like it was as old as the house and the pillows, gosh, we were better off without any. Dinner, goodness me! It was supposed to be romantic and amazing. It was awful. The seafood, crayfish in particular, was black, yes it had gone bad. Their silver cutlery accompanied every meal that had lemon juice making everything taste like chemicals served in a tin can. I don't think I could be more disappointed After complaining to the owner, we were offered a couples massage - yet again disappointing We were put on two uncomfortable mobile massage beds, with damp towels in a tiny little sun room with no heating and trust me it was cold I am glad it was free because I wanted it over from the start. Such an expensive disappointment

All potential tenants please be cautious before booking, this guest house is an absolute FRAUD!!! We booked one of the private rooms for peace and quietness months before. Here is here a true reflection of our experience and the corrupt management. 1. We arrived and was told our room book was not available, it was taken by someone else on a long lease 2. Before showing rooms, you had to complete and sign forms and make final payment- BIG MISTAKE 3. The Marietjie van der Walt (owner) turns up and pressurises us to make massage and dinner bookings. After 3 times saying we will think about she kept on trying saying her staff is great etc etc. Just cheap behaviour. 4. We were adamant to go and see our room. After 10 minutes, we were taken to private area to see room but were not allowed in as cleaners were busy cleaning. The private area was rundown, tired, smelly and dusty, it looks as if it’s not been spring cleaned or maintained for years. Disgusting!! Not at all what is shown on the web-site pictures. 5. We decided to go for lunch and return in 2 hours to allow for our room to be cleaned. 6. When we returned we were shocked how dusty the room was. Complete out dated with algae growing on the bathroom tiles. Within 10 minutes we went back to reception and asked our money back due to the room being dirty and dusty. Not good for someone with asthma conditions. 7. We were told to return the next day the person working in the office was not available. 8. After many phone calls and chatting to Marietjie Van der Walt many times no avail of a refund. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BOOKING AT ILLYRIA HOUSE. This place is: • DIRTY • POORLY MAINTANED • OWNED BY A PUSH WOMAN THAT DOES NOT TAKE NO IF NOT INTERESTED ON THEIR EXTRAS • TIRED AND OLD ROOMS • DIRTY BATHROOMS FROM THE 70s WITH ALGE GROWING ON TILES • GARDEN NOT CLEANED AND MAINTAINED • MONEY GRABBERS

On November 10th about 16:00, I met the owner of Illyria House at Cameo Framers. She was in urgent need of someone to assist with hanging some very heavy items and a wall cupboard. I agreed to do the work directly and followed her from the store at 16:20.

I did the work she required under difficult conditions; everything was on verandahs, there was quite a storm and it was very slippery, there was little room, the ladder did not fit into the available space, the light was incredibly bad and the cupboard and a heavy mirror had to be put up about 3m from the floor. There were men at hand to do the heavy lifting and one of them lit the area where I had to drill with a phone torch. I was pleased to have everything done by 19:40.

Mrs van der Walt seemed very happy with the work and insited that I join her for a glass of wine. I finally left her premises at 20:45. She asked me to email an invoice and said she would do an EFT.

I sent an invoice for 3 hour's work the next day. And resent it a week later, wherupon she went to Cameo Framers and told the proprietor that I had invoiced her for more hours than I had spent on her premises.

I wrote again, telling her that I coud prove how long I spent at her house. Unfortunately she is ignoring me.

I phoned to arrange a photoshoot for a client a week ago and the person said I don't have to make any arrangements and there are no fees involved, just to confirm I phoned this morning, having the shoot this afternoon and the person said I must pay R1500, after arguing with me he put me thru to the owner, the most rude and unintelligent woman I have ever spoke to, right from the start she said no and I am not welcome and put the phone down and I phoned back and she shouted and just put the phone down, when I phoned again the guy who answered refused to put me thru. This is SO bad and she could've handled in so different. She obviously doesn't understand customer relationship.
