I went to Khayelitsha Home Affairs today the 5th of June 2024. I went there with a letter from the Master's Court to register my customary marriage. First I got a comment that I am too young to not know that you need to get married the "normal way" The lady even made an example that it was done by their mother's age group in 1962 as they did not know better. I let that slide and then she went on to say that Customary Marriages have been placed on hold indefinitely by the Minister when I asked for proof they told me they do not have one. I then asked how I knew that the marriages could be registered and was told that I would need to keep on visiting the home affairs to ask them. This means I will need to keep on waking up early in the morning to ask them if the minister has changed their mind. I then called the Department of Home Affairs helpline and the lady did not know anything about this. I need help as this is holding up my process with the estate of the late.
