I when went to the bungalow and the service was so bad as soon as we walked at the door I was there to celebrate my birthday but I never thought the bungalow waiters will make my experience bad. It took 16 minutes to get our drinks then it took 46 minutes for the starters to come then it took about 30 minutes for the main to come and then I had enough and I couldn’t even have dessert. We decided to leave and I made sure I raise my concerns to the manager and he assured me that he’s gonna get back to me took my contact details it’s been two weeks with no feedback. The bungalow they class you and don’t respect local clients don’t go there because you will regret it.

The Plight of Kove collection Waiters. It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we find ourselves here as Kove Collection Waiters, enduring the hard effects of Covid-19 and sufferings inflicted down on us by our Employers under the guise of Covid-19. We have been left with no choice but to retaliate. Reasons for our retaliation are as follows: Thirty eight percent (38%) deduction of the waiters tips. We believe that when we signed contracts , the only deduction we agreed to, was 8.5 % from the credit card tips , but as of the 15th of July of 2020 , a memo was circulated in the waiters’ Whatsapp groups informing that 38.5% (in total) will be deducted from the credit card tips. We had no say in this ! It was chucked down our throats and because of the panic of Covid-19 and uncer*****y for our jobs we were forced to take this. As the Lockdown was being eased and the business was getting better we expected things to revert back to their old state but to our dismiss they still insisted on the deduction. The basis of this deduction is that they are sharing the tips with bar staff, the runners and the kitchen staff. Bear in mind that all these staff members obtain a higher hourly rate compared to all the waiters ( R20/hour) and most of them are on fixed salary contracts. For a shop with 10 waiters assuming everyone makes R10000 in tips they are taking R3800 from each waiter , multiplying that by 10 , total deductions is R38000 which we believe is now being used to pay their staff. We have had instances where a runner gets paid more than the waiter yet the waiter is the one being tipped by the guest. Guest do not know that the tips they leave on card waiters, don’t get all of it. To show the Employers’ exploitation , they put a policy that bars you from discussing the tip with the guest. Waiters were fired for swapping cash and credit card slips when closing tables . The HR has been approached , grievances letters have been drafted but to no avail. Instead ,we are threatened and told that we must be grateful that we still have jobs . Any attempt to raise our voices against this exploitation has resulted In fellow colleagues losing their jobs. The work environment has become toxic and we fear for our jobs. The conditions have gone beyond being stringent. Its now unbearable and worst part is we are aware of the fact that they are taking advantage of our desperation. For how much longer must we work hard and suffer at the hands of our Employers? For how much longer must we work long hours and not get the money we have earned ? The company can not allow you to put 10% fixed tip on the bill saying the table must have 8 people and above but then why are thy taking 38.5 % from the little that the customer has given me as gratitude We asking for those in authority to intervene those who understand law so that thy can assist us to get our tips thy have been taking from us from July last year up to date. #KoveMustFall #TipWaitersInCash
