KSA Builders, i-Build or whatever Ian van der Riet calls himself, had the misfortune of meeting this individual for a minor reno, paid a small deposit, work started so did the excuses of a broken down car etc. and not able to pitch. Kept asking when materials would be delivered, simply made promises, but did not deliver, ended up firing him. Do not hire this builder whether referred or coming across an online ad, you will most likely lose your money and experience unnecessary stress over what should be a professional and seamless remodel. It is such a shame when someone who may have the knowledge, s**** and experience to excel in the building industry would absolutely tarnish his reputation and run a business, previously operated by his father, into the ground. I hope he is successfully traced and held accountable for such disgusting services.

Having seen the other complaints on Hellpeter about this man, I must add the following:

Apart from the other shocking Helopeter complaints, I have been informedy the person that referred Ian vd Riet to me, that they have managed to get a trace on him as Mr vd Riet owes him R100,000 and that he will proceed to lay charges against him. My personal individual and his business, KSA Bulding projects, is the following:

I signed an agreement for him to rennovate two bathrooms and paid a 65% deposit, which was an unneccessarily high deposit, considering that it turned out I had to purchase most of the fittings. The work of gutting one bathroom was commenced with great enthusiasm by very uns****ed labour that were clearly foreign and doubtfully legal. But very soon the nonsense started. First he started excuses that his workers wouldn't come, for instance, becuase it was raining, then he spun me a sob story about his son being in hospital and he asked for another 25% payment, when they had hardly gotten very far and progress was soon just one day of work a week if I was lucky and never ending excuses when I called him.

Him and his staff were also very careless about security (failure to close gate, lock front door) and something was stolen from my property.

Another matter of deep concern was the state he appeared to be in when he came to my house one Monday - He appeared to have been on drugs as there was something very wrong with his eyes and he could not even remember whether I was his client or whether I was referred to him by someone.

I felt so uncomfirtable with even allowing him back on my property or being involved with something important to the value of my house, that I could not sleep at night until I decided to fire him, despite the fact that he already had 90% of the money for the project. I got a reputable company to finish the first bathroom that was half complete and the difference in workmanship and professionalism was night and day.

We agreed that he would finsish the other bathroom and do other work for the money he already had, but that was ultimately just met with excuses and delays and I had to get someboby else to rennovate the second bathroom.

I failed to get full value out of Mr. van der Riet for the money I paid him becuase he avoided calls / messages after a while and when I did I always got excuses about broken bakkies etc, but it was also not of enough value to get lawyers to throw good money after bad.

The only way to contract bulders that operate this way, is to pay zero deposit and only make fair progress payments.....but then you still take a gamble on the quality workmanship you are going to get. Better to rather go with large reputable companies.

Never ever use Ian van der Riet /KSA Builders to do any work for you.

I am quiet new in the Western Cape and so I looked on the internet and local newspapers for builders to do a renovation comprising of an additional sunroom of 4 x 5 meters, changing some windows and breaking down a boundary wall and building a new one.

Several builders quoted and I selected an upper quartile quote from Ian van der Riet, owner of KSA Builders, who did a few site visits and seemed very helpful and enthuiastic.

Van der Riet gave me a quote, a schedule and a list of progress payments. I placed the order in June 2016 and paid the deposit which was 50% of the total job cost. The order of magnitude total cost was R 170 000.00.

The work started on 7th July and should have been fully completed by about the 20th September 2016.

The work started with some enthuiasm and the 2nd progress payment of about 20% of total job cost was made. Shortly after this Van der Riet called me for a meeting and told me he lost a lot of money on another job and he did and did not have money to carry on. He told me he has ordered and paid the deposit for my aluminium and stacker doors as well as the indoor braai, the floor tiles, light fittings etc. Vander Riet said he could not continue unless I gave him some money or bought the materials. I opted for the latter option and progress was made but in drips and drabs, with nothing happening on most days.

Van der Riet was never on site to supervise the work even though he promised this would be the case and this was one of my requiremensts before he got the job.

When we eventually got to the stage of installing the aluminium doors, the braai and the floor tiles, I discovered these items were never ordered and no payments had to be made.

Repeated attempts to ask Ian van der Riet to complete the work failed and he eventually failed stopped coming to site.

Van der Riet's repeated promised and commitments all failed. He is a liar and is very dishonest.

I eventually had to get the work completed myself and suffered damages of about R 75 000.00 and the job was only finally completed late in November 2016 ie it took double the amout of time resulting in a job of R 170 000.00 costing me about R 240 000.00, with lost of stress and worry.

Ian Van der Riet / KSA Builders are fraudsters and thieves and criminals should not be doing work for any society and they should be behind bars.

The case has been taken to the SAPS and a Lawyer who will now take the appropriate action.

Never, ever give Ian van der Riet of KSA Builders any work and never ever buy anything from him. He is a crook that should be prevented for doing work anywhere.
