Failure to provide services they claim to offer
So sad that this organization is failing to deliver the purpose of its existence. Accompanied family to one of your branches in need to assistence with a divorce that's in community of property, correct info and paperwork was provided. They were advised of a TAT, moooonths down the line, nothing. After further enquiries they were informed that the initial TAT was actually incorrect, how when this information was given by employees there. Zero communication, help, nothing. Typical public service provider, citizens can never reply on. So disheartened and disappointing. Seeing so many 1 star rating, you need to do better honestly.

I requested legal assistance from legal aid for a labour court case. I was told to visit the paralegal in Durban, Mr S Absalom. He told me he will let me know when i have to come see him again, after not hearing anything for a while i sent him a whatsapp which went unread. I called and couldnt get through or when i did was told id get a call back. Emailed him and Felicity G plenty times and was ignored. Being jobless i could not just travel 180kms from my home just to ask what is happening. I had given up on them. After some developments with the case, I emailed ceo@legal-aid.co.za and a Gerhard Volschenk responded saying he will get another paralegal to contact me- Nobody did and now he ignores my emails as well. He also said my file was closed due to me not responding to sms's- I have the same number AND NO SMS'S WERE SENT TO ME. I fear that my case will get thrown out now thanks to Legal Aid. Absolutely pathetic service to those who really need it. I will not just be leaving a complaint here- I will be taking this as far as I possibly can.

Bad Experience
Went there thinking they would assist me in the problem I have. No one got back to me.Wont recommend them at all. VERY DISSAPIONTED

Bad service
I app**** for representation on 21August and application was approved, then appointment with the lawyer was on 11/09/2025. I app**** for variation on my divorce settlement . Two months lated I called and the lawyer said I will get back to you let me check on your file. Few min later I got a lousy sms saying 'we will prepare the application in due course'. And that was it. During the briefing I was told I was going the get updated on da case every 2months. To my suprive I had to call in and ask and to my surprise nothing has been done since I left legal aid offices.

Bad service

I know legal aid is a goverment assosiation , however they are useless. I had a complaint , After numerous cals and email , with permission they dont give me any feedback In fact the legal representative did not even arrive at the last court date. i THEN RECEIVED A Contact fron their headoffice a certain MR Lohale , he was extremely rude and my issue has still not been resolved . I have been trying to contact them telephonicaly. however they are ignoring me

Disgusted feedback from Legal Aid
Sharing my unbelievable and "sobering" experience with Legal Aid, that my ex-wife pushed to be put in place to represent our minor children because as a mother, she does not have a voice and neither wants to take no accountability. Firstly to the posters/image on can view: Legal Aid vision: Your Voice. For Justice. Mission: "Protecting and Defending the rights of women and children" Do we as men/fathers have any rights in the eyes of Legal Aid and their image? If Legal Aid is purely focused on defending and protecting the rights of women and children will the truth not be obscured? Some history, for the past 5 years I have been experiencing a frustrated long dragged-out divorce process where my access to my children is non existing – Parental Alienation and Manipulation tactics employed. I have had no contact or telephone with my children on their birthdays who recently turned 13 years old and 16 years old, respectively. My parental rights as a father are non-existing and my worth in my children’s lives is financially only. My children started their so-called therapy in 2021 and according to feedback I received a few weeks back from Legal Aid – “NO CONTACT WITH THE FATHER” The stance of Legal Aid Adv. Ms. *** is mind blowing and what breaks me to my bones is what I received a few days ago: Section 129(2)(a) which says that: ‘A child may consent to his or her own medical treatment .. if the child is over the age of 12 years old and the child is of sufficient maturity and has the mental capacity to understand the benefits, risks, social and other implications of the treatment’. 2. Your client is the holder of parental rights and responsibilities which include the obligation of care. He is therefore with reference to Section 1 responsible for the well-being of his children. 3. His children are saying that they need emotional support with a the****** of their choice. Your client having regard to his letters, fails to look past his own self-interest to see what the children need and want. It would seem he wants to hold their emotional wellbeing hostage and use it as a bargaining chip to further his interest. 4. Both children are older than 12 and therefore have to consent to their own medical treatment. They choose to have that treatment with Ms *** and not with anyone else. 5. The request is that your client will pay half of the emotional therapy with Ms xx to ensure his children’s emotional well-being. The request is not for his permission. His permission is not needed. Adv. Ms ***, FYI I as the father of my minor children have gone the extra mile and beyond to ensure my children receive the appropriate qualified therapy. You should ask the mother why the therapy is not being followed through. Why all recommendations that were made by Family Advocate, previous the****** etc. from 2021/2022 have not been adhered too. To your point that I will pay, Adv Ms ***. For your information I have paid more than my share of therapy bills and recently the mother has not paid her 50% portion of the therapy bill, which I paid without a question because the wellbeing of my children is my priority. You are taking away my parental rights and me seeking the professional help my children require, read the available reports and do your work!!! My minor children cannot perform an evaluation and diagnose their medical treatment because of parental alienation and manipulation. The the****** that the Adv Ms *** is saying my children will go see is not registered with the HPCSA, she is not qualified psychologist / psychiatrist that deals with such cases. In the Counselling The****** report she herself stated that the minor children need to seek professional help April 2024. As a parent, father and holding true to my parental rights and care for my children, I stand my ground that Legal Aid you are oblivious to factual state and road travelled. You are removing my parental rights and the agenda you are driving is unbelievable. STOP – INVESTIGATE – READ THE REPORTS – LOOK AT FACTUAL DATA THEN COMMENT

Need urgent help
My life put at risk due to Legal Aid KZN. I am involved in a ******** case Legal Aid Reference number X975366123. My first appearance 19/05/2023 Legal Aid representation Mr Lushaba did not even greed didn't even had the docket yet. There were 5 accussed people he came and told us that we all guilty and intimidated me to plead guilty. I lodge a complaint with the LPC against Mr Lushaba in 2024. Mr Lushaba was so rude and more interested in intimidating me to plead guilty, he never paid attention to the court proceedings. On the following two Appearances the 14/07/2023 and the 01/09/2023 the state confirmed charges against me for Money laundering only. The court magistrate Mr Davis ordered the state to provide evidence of the charge by presenting the bank statements. He also informed the state that the bank account is not in question and will not be looked at. Mr Lushaba told me that he is scared off me after the complaint was lodge against him with the LPC. Then he withdrew from the case. The second representation Ms Dumakude followed in Mr Lushaba footsteps. She even wanted to consult over a phonecall dealing with such a serious ******** case. She looked at my court appearance notes and saw, I lodge a complaint against Mr Lushaba then she also withdrew from the case. The third representative Mr Reason Ngobo after charges against me were confirmed and the court already ordered the state to provide evidence of. On the 19/01/2024 Mr Reason Ngobo allowed the state prosecutor Ms Ramouthar to intimidate me to plead guilty for money laundering. I refused. I even informed Mr Reason Ngobo that the police affidavit which formed part of the *******ly information obtained by officer Yvonne was removed from the docket. Nothing about this was done. He allowed the state prosecutor Ms Ramouthar to intimidate me to plead guilty, this after charges against me were confirmed and the court magistrate Mr Davis ordered the state to provide evidence of which is ignored to date, he still allowed the state prosecutor Ms Ramouthar to add two more accounts one attempted ***** and two attempted Theft without objecting to these charges if he should have known that it's a serious ******** offense to intimidate someone and that it's ******** conduct against the ******** Procedure Act to add charges, when the state already confirmed the charges against me and the court magistrate Mr Davis ordered the state to provide evidence of. Mr Reason Ngobo left Durban Legal Aid without even informing me. He didn't even withdraw from the case. The last representation Ms Moodley failed miserably to represent me. After the complainant failed too appear for cross questioning four times. Ms Moodley never prepared for the case. When the complainant finally decided to appear before the court for cross questioning Ms Moodley wasn't prepared we never had any consultations I even had to supply Ms Moodley with the questions to ask the complainant. When we finally talked I informed her off what actually happened and transpired throughout the case. With all this new evidence she said she have to withdraw from the case. Now I'm are getting punished for Legal Aid representation ******** contuct. An appeal was lodge with the Provincial and National office for Legal Aid South Africa to represent me in this matter. Legal Aid are refusing to represent this after all the supported documents and appeal was send to Legal Aid. Now I need to represent my self. I don't know how to represent myself. I spoken to Ms Nombulelo from the Provincial Office for Legal Aid KZN. Informed her what transpired throughout this case and informed her now that I need to present myself. I am presented out of 19 Appearances only 8 recorded transcripts supp****. I am also supp**** by Mr Prag court manager with a *****ulent charge sheet P21 stating that the two most appearances was only remands, the prosecutor mentioned on the P21 wasn't even the prosecutor appearing on these two Appearances. Now when I try to contact Ms Nombulelo from the Provincial Office for Legal Aid KZN there's no answer. I am punished for Durban Legal Aid representation ******** conduct. There is complaints lodge against Mr Lushaba and Mr Reason Ngobo with me LPC and I am informed that the LPC did open the complaint and this time the matter is getting investigated. How am I suppose to represent myself in this matter if the court is not providing me with a complete docket. Plus going so far to supply me with a *****ulent charge sheet P21 makes me very scared. I am pleading with the Provincial Office for Legal Aid KZN to please assist me with this matter, with representation which can assist me in a fair manner. Because this trail have been ******** conducted and is unfair and prejudice towards me. Can someone please contact me regarding this matter urgently. My next appearance is on the 09/09/2025.
