Serious POPIA Breach — MediWallet Shared My Bank Statement on WhatsApp
I am extremely disappointed and honestly shocked by what happened today. A MediWallet representative pulled my bank statements from my online application and shared my personal bank statement in a WhatsApp chat without my consent. This is not a small mistake; this is a direct violation of my privacy and a breach of POPIA.
My bank statement contains sensitive financial information. I never gave permission for it to be transmitted over WhatsApp, let alone dropped casually into a chat. This kind of behaviour is irresponsible and dangerous.
I have screenshots of the entire conversation and I have already lodged a formal complaint with MediWallet. I am now escalating this matter to their compliance department and the Information Regulator as well.
I expect: • An immediate investigation • A written apology • Confirmation that my data has been deleted • Assurance that this will not happen to any other customer
This level of carelessness is unacceptable, and customers deserve far better protection of their private information.
