When I bought my scooter from Mike Hopkins Motorcycles, I was not allowed to test ride it beforehand. However, I was assured that I could return it anytime and they would buy it back with almost no loss – that promise played a big role in my decision to go through with the purchase.
The scooter was brand new, and I paid over 80,000 Rand. Mark Livings, who handled the sale, came across as overly friendly, even uncomfortably so at times. He pushed hard to get me into the system as a registered client and also made several personal advances, accompanied by exaggerated compliments, false promises, and flirty behavior that crossed the line.
The scooter was delivered with multiple scratches on the floorboard area. I didn’t say anything at the time, thinking it wouldn’t matter if they were going to buy it back later anyway. After only 300 km, I came back for the first service – and noticed more scratches on the front floorboard, which I definitely didn’t cause. Again, I remained silent.
I was also promised the official COC (Certificate of Conformity) papers – which were never provided. After that, any discussion about the promised buy-back or the missing documents was quietly dropped, and no one followed up.
In the end, I felt misled and taken advantage of – both emotionally and financially. I am now stuck with a vehicle I cannot use as intended, and there is no support from the dealership to resolve this.
I would not recommend buying from this business – at least not while Mark Livings is still working there.
