I am extremely disappointed with both the quality of Montego’s Cosmic Kitty treats and their subsequent customer service. I purchased a bag of Cosmic Kitty chewy treats from Paardevlei Petshop on 31 December 2025, only to find they had a revolting, strong plastic smell and were covered in a strange white substance. My cats, thankfully, had the sense to refuse them. While the store was helpful enough to exchange them for a "normal" looking bag, the fact that a product with a 2026 expiry date could be in that state is a major safety concern. I reached out to Montego to make them aware of this potentially dangerous batch. While they initially engaged, the follow-up has been abysmal. After being promised a delivery (presumably a replacement or gesture of goodwill), I have been left waiting. When I followed up on the delay, I was told it was a courier issue, but there has been no proactive communication or resolution since. It is one thing to have a manufacturing slip-up; it is another to fail so poorly at customer recovery when a pet’s health could have been at risk. I expected much better from a brand like Montego

I purchased a bag of Puppy food and kept it stored in a clean plastic tub that is always sealed, yesterday I noticed worms throughout the food, there is no way the contamination happened in my house so it must be a bad batch from your factory, I am horrified that my puppy has been eating that and now I had to spend more money on a replacement bag. I have been a loyal customer for many years with my other dog but this is making me wonder if I need to change them both. I have pictures of the worms all wiggling around in the tub!!

Absolutely AMAZING customer service and support from Montego after I sent through a query via their website. I had an email response back within minutes and then a follow-up PHONE CALL from their wonderful Colleen, who gave me very trusted advice. They definitely have a very loyal customer for life! Thank you and keep up the wonderful customer support! It certainly gives fur baby parents a lot of confidence in your excellent products. No wonder Montego comes so highly recommended by so many - we got onto it by doing a lot of research on the internet where they came out tops for quality and value. Bags o Wags the bacon flavor not bacon flavor anymore the smell is like old Peanut butter and the sticks color is different. The are sticky and stuck to each other. My dogs don't want to eat it any more and getting sick of it.

Complaint: Montego “Monty & Me” Dog Food I am writing this as both a formal complaint and a warning to fellow pet owners regarding Montego Monty & Me dog food. Although this happened in August 2025, I decided to wait before posting this complaint so as to let Montego fully respond After feeding this product to my five dogs, every single one of them became sick within a day. The symptoms included: Vomiting Explosive diarrhea Severe flatulence Scratching, itching, and skin irritation Hair loss and hot spots (in my Schnauzer) since we started on Montego sometime back Shaking, shivering, and general distress Sadly, I didn’t know that dog food could cause this! But when all five dogs got sick after buying a new bag of Montego Monty & Me on the 5th of August, I knew something was wrong. Since it affected all of my dogs, it had to be the food. They became sick immediately, and I was alarmed. Once I stopped feeding Montego and switched to different food, the difference was clear: The vomiting and diarrhea stopped. They weren’t shaking or shivering anymore. The flatulence disappeared. Their energy returned. 1month later -Their coats feel softer, the hair loss had decreased. The itching stopped. They regained healthy weight (they had been unnaturally skinny on Montego). Their digestion improved (smaller, healthier stools), which means the food I switched to is being properly digested. Unfortunately, certain ingredients in dog food are just fillers with no nutrients or goodness—and Montego seems to be full of them. This has proven to me beyond doubt that Montego Monty & Me was harming my dogs—and sadly, I had been feeding this food for some time, had I know of all the BAD REVIEWS I would have NEVER PURCHASE THE PRODUCT. Response from Montego When I initially complained, Colleen from Montego responded quickly, and at first, I believed she was genuinely concerned. Montego offered to collect the food, test it, and refund me. While I did receive my money back, the “test reports” they sent were questionable- which I had to press them for, they coming from an in-house twsting facility. When I pressed them further, asking if they were claiming there was nothing wrong with the food and told them I had kept 4kg aside for my own testing—Colleen stopped responding altogether. So no they were not willing to in writing say it wasn't their food ?? After researching online, I was horrified to see countless other complaints from pet owners across South Africa reporting the same issues: vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, skin problems, weight loss, even mold and maggots in the food. Clearly, this is not an isolated incident, as Montego first suggested—it is a widespread problem. While chatting with my uncle in East London, he told me he had recently had the very same issues with Montego Monty & Me and also decided to take his dogs off it. Complaint after complaint—read the internet. It’s not isolated. It wasn’t a coincidence. It was their product! My Conclusion Montego Monty & Me made 5 of my dogs sick. The food caused vomiting, diarrhea, shivering, itching, and visible suffering. Montego may want to pretend their food isn’t the problem, but my experience—and the experiences of many others—say otherwise. I will never purchase Montego again. I trusted the pretty packaging and the sales pitch, but my dogs’ health paid the price. Since changing to a better brand (at just R150 more per month, about R3 per day extra), my dogs are healthier, happier, and thriving. I even found excellent food online that can be delivered to my door, and with just a few changes, my dogs are much happier. ⚠️ My warning to fellow pet owners: Do not feed your beloved pets Montego products. If your animals start getting sick, don’t assume it’s just a “bug.” Take them off Montego immediately. Your pets deserve safe, nutritious food—not this absolute garbage. Talk to other pet owners, because it’s good to be informed. I am going to share my experience on as many forums and websites as possible, because far too many people trust the fancy packaging. Montego, thank you for the refund, but no amount of money can undo the harm your product caused my dogs—or restore my trust in your brand.

I buy a bag Montego Karoo per month for my JR's. The last portion of the previous bag was old and full of worms. I always empty the bag into a sealed plastic container. The container is always washed and dried first before the fresh pellets are placed in it. I complained to Montego with pictures. 'Colleen' reacted and asked for more info. A 'bribe' in the form of a 'troetel sakkie' - whatever that is, was offered. I provided the offer and declined the 'bribe' I never heard from Montego again. I have to go thru the whole schlepp of changing dog food again. NEVER BUY MONTEGO, THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE WELFARE OF YOUR DOG!!🤬🤬🤬

Our 3 yorkies have been on Karoo Hypoallergenic since Jan because we thought it to be a good hypoallergenic dog food and also by recommendation of your rep, and since then we noticed their health issues increased. It’s been issues non-stop. Our yorkies never gets sick never needs to go to the vet(and they are 5 and 5 and 9 years old) but the last 3 months it has only been vet visits since being on Montego Karoo Hypoallergenic again. Ear infections, dandruf behind their ears?!, intestinal infections, anal gland issues and infected anal glands,scratching alot but especially their ears,licking their paws non stop,licking their bums non stop,sneezing,wheezing,regurgitating their food(which has NEVER happened before), skin allergies and increase of skin allergies.My dogs shake their ears non-stop and its worsening,I will be having to go to the vet today yet again. We have not changed anything else or introduced anything new into their routine beside KAROO. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOUR DOG FOOD??? I want to know who is going to cover my vet bills yet again because of your dog food??! And reading the other reviews of the past year,its similar complaints.WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR MY VET BILL TODAY BECAUSE OF YOUR BAD QUALITY DOG FOOD??? This is scary to say the least and by reading reviews owners have already lost their pets due to your toxic dog food and you are not doing anything about it! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS??? I stopped the Karoo today and now need to get other but better dog food and take my yorkies to the vet AGAIN to have them sorted out,hopefully it’s not too late because of MONTEGO!!!!!!!!! I should have come to hello peter first before I started feeding my yorkies this poison and saved myself alot of vet bills!!!
