Centric Radiology, a subsidiary of Morton and Partners, refused to give me a copy of my mammogram results.
The Constitution and the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) guarantee that you have the right to access information held by the state (and private entities) that is needed to protect or exercise your rights. This includes your medical records.
I had to threaten the staff member with my lawyer, the PAIA act and a report to the HPCSA and Blouberg Netcare Hospital, in order to get a copy.
The practise manager then responds to my email complaint, by alluding that my results weren't ready. This cannot be true as I had my mammogram done at 9am yesterday and asked for results a day later at 3pm. The staff at the front desk assured me they were in fact ready. Confusing, right ?
I think that a better manner to handle this would be to check with staff what was aid, what happened, and take the time to CALL the client.
An weak apology based on differing stories does not sit well with me. I have a right to my records and their staff should be better trained to assist clients.
