Yesterday, I went for a walk on umhlanga rocks' beach with my boyfriend. We had stopped to eat and leaned against the railing, while doing so. Soon after, our arms were burning as if we were getting stung and what was followed by an allergic reaction. We soon figured out this was all due to minute filings/shavings on the material used for the railing. This allergic reaction could have been way worse almost to the point of life threatening for those who usually handle allergic reactions very badly. Today I still have red, itchy bumps from the reaction on my arm. This discomfort was an unnecessary experience which should never have happened. I feel the municipality needs to approach this sort of public endangerment by addressing the issue and changing the material used, as well as acknowledging the affect it has had on our body.
