I am typing this frustrated and sad at the outcome of my complain with National Real Estate. I am a 70 year old lady who shouldn't be treated as if I don't have anyone to fight for me. I have an apartment at Park Avenue Bloemfontein and the complex is managed by NRE. As we all know, South Africa experienced heavy rains the past months. This lead to a leak in the roof of the block of my apartment. My apartment is on the top floor so this leak resulted in damaging the ceiling of the unit. I then reported this to NRE and they said they will claim from insurance. A few weeks past and they sent an inspector/assessor, who then took down the damaged ceiling and said they will sent out someone to repair the ceiling in the following weeks. Which never happened. when I followed up with NRE months later they tell me that the insurance declined my claim. When I read the rejections letter from the insurance, Alpha Insure, it says that they received various claims from the complex, they were unable to inspect all the units. So they listed the 3 units that they inspected which to my surprise, my unit wasn't there. And their reason to declining my claim or rather all the claims from the complex, is because the managing agent hasn't been maintaining the roof, this resulted with leaks. So the managing agent being NRE is to be blamed and is responsible for the damage. But NRE is blaming Alpha Insure. With this being said, I am left with an apartment with damaged ceiling and no one to take responsibility. Why did they send someone to take down the ceiling if their intent was not to fix it. I wonder if they treat all their clients like this or is it because I am an old lady and they are taking advantage. I am so frustrated
