PayJoy SA - Hidden Costs, Misleading Sale, Refused Cancellation I bought a phone through PayJoy at TotalSport 2 days ago. At no point was I told this was a rented phone or that I would pay more than double the cash price. Cash price of the phone: R8,000 PayJoy total I’m now locked into: R17,700 Upfront paid already: R1,040 after being told to pay R1,859 within 7 days I returned the phone today to TotalSport. No scratches, no damage, unused. The store manager was helpful, but PayJoy refused to cancel. Before going to the store, I called PayJoy customer service. They said I must give 30 days notice AND still pay. I told them I never signed any form and no one told me this was a rental agreement. I was kept waiting over 2 hours for a call back that never came. They make the process impossible so you give up. When you return the phone, you don’t get your money back. So I lose R1,040 for a phone I had for 2 days. This is misleading. The total cost is hidden. No proper disclosure was done in store. I want this contract cancelled immediately and my R1,040 refunded. PayJoy is taking advantage of people. Never buy anything from PayJoy - they double the amount and hide the information.

I "bought" a phone for my son today using Payjoy. When reviewing the contract I noticed that it is a lease agreement and not a credit agreement. Furthermore clause 18 states that at the end of the agreement I must buy the phone from Payjoy at a market related or return it to them. This was not how I understood it and this clause was never explained to me by the salesperson at Incredible Connection. So for a phone that costs R2799 I am going to pay more than R6000 rand during the 9 months payment period, and then I still have to buy it from Payjoy. I have been misled, I think this is a legal ****. Also, the advertising is misleading, making it sound like a credit agreement when it is actually a lease/rental agreement.

I have lodged a formal ***** and identity theft complaint regarding a PayJoy account that appears on my Experian credit profile. I discovered on 9 May 2026 that a PayJoy account was opened on 25 March 2026 using my identity details without my knowledge or consent. Facts: • I have never opened or app**** for any PayJoy account. • The account was allegedly opened in Cape Town, where I do not reside and have not conducted this transaction. • The *****ster appears to have used my old green barcoded ID book. • I have used a Smart ID card since 2014, and my current Smart ID reflecting my new surname was issued in January 2026. • I have already submitted an affidavit, a copy of my Smart ID, and a picture of holding my ID. Despite this, your team has failed to properly assist me and has refused to provide documents required by SAPS to open and investigate this ******** case. The police require: 1. An account statement/invoice showing the amount owing; 2. The address/location of the Mr Price store where the account was opened; 3. Supporting account opening documents used to approve this account. They provided a customer rental agreement and ID copy, however: The ID photo is not mine • the agreement contains no proper initials on the pages; • it lacks valid signatures on the agreement pages; • the only “signature” appears to be a typed signature on the final page, which strongly indicates ***** and invalid consent.
