I am not sure what type corporate citizen is PG Bison think their actions are reflecting. The gravel road from Elliot crossing Qebe towards Engcobo is a mess due to the forest harvesting. The road has not been good but driving during rainy days has been no issue, however since the harvesting the trucks and loading plant machinery made it worse and lost much of the last layer of the gravel. Qebe primary school and High school are suffering from this as teachers from Elliot cannot make it to school on rainy days or they attempt and only to find out on their way to school that rain was heavier passed through the plantation harvesting.
PG Bison and Partners has shown no care to sustain the infrastructure only for their business operation any other road users have to suffer. The gravel and stones became loose on this road making it very difficult to drive on it. The communities may postpone their business in town Elliot but education to our children cannot wait at all. The plantation is known to be Mondi Forest as it was planted by in 22 years back when I was doing my primary school then at Mhlwazi primary.
It is disappointing for whoever is benefiting from this business activity not to have seen that instead of contributing they have taken away the little that has been left the government whose response takes its own time with less care. This harvesting is making things worse for the children and communities around.
It is not healthy that courts have to be used to compel organisation that we trust should be guided by natural common sense to see their actions even before attempting the operations and prefer to destroy while sucking out resourcing from the poor. I have no appetite for the use of courts but to see your conscience guiding you through and do the right thing in an ethical way
