Avoid ADvTECH schools
ADvTECH continually offers abysmal service. Whilst my children's school is wonderful and the teaching staff are incredible, this parent organisation is an embarrassment and it is leading me to looking for another school. They have, over the course of a few years, made multiple mistakes with invoices, not corrected them for despite multiple requests, not responded appropriately to emails or calls, and then sent threatening emails saying that they will suspend my children if money (that I do not owe) is not paid. Given that I have paid upfront for school fees, the fact that they are threatening to suspend my children over THEIR mistakes in aftercare fees leans towards ******ion/******** coercion. They are essentially pressuring me to pay a disputed amount by threatening harm (my child being suspended). This entirely undermines my ability work effectively with them while they sort out their errors.

Be very careful with this company
Be very careful with this company. I had a really shocking experience with them. I have full WhasApp transcript for anyone who wants the full details but here is the outline. I ordered a bed from them for my daughter. They invoiced me incorrectly the first time but I know how it is so assumed this was just a mistake (now experience tells me it's possible they trying to scam more money from me). After chasing a few times I received the updated invoice which I paid immediately. I was given a 1 week turnaround time for completion and delivery. 10 days later I hadn’t heard anything so I messaged to find out how it was coming on. They responded saying they may be able to deliver the next day but would ‘let me know’. They didn’t let me know. All I received at 17.19 the next day was a message saying, “On our way”. Given that the Facebook ad stated they were based in Blouberg area, I knew that meant they wouldn’t take long so I rushed home from work to be there to receive the delivery. Here is another ad from them stating that they're based in Blouberg - I later found this to be a lie. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/***/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined An hour later they still hadn’t arrive. My toddler was sick, my husband was out and I needed to begin the bath/bed process, which is difficult at the best of times, let alone when she’s not well. I messaged to ask for an ETA. They didn’t respond, so 10 minutes later I stated that they would need to arrive soon or there was a possibility that I wouldn’t be able to answer the door. They responded that they were in a location that was still quite far away. I was confused given that their ad said they were in my area. So I said that unfortunately they’d get here too late so asked if they can provide an alternative delivery slot. He said it wasn’t possible and that they could drop it and not assemble the bed. I clarified that until I had my little one down I wouldn’t be able to answer the door at all. Then things got weird… He said if I didn’t want the bed then he could just provide a refund. Of course I wanted the bed - it was part of my daughter’s Christmas gifts! I tried to be helpful by saying that if they were insisting on delivering rather than offering me an alternative time that would be convenient then they’d need to leave it outside my garage but that they’d need to be responsible for it. That would mean either waiting until I was available or by providing a refund should it be stolen. Usually I would have suggested leaving it at a neighbour’s house but they were all out/away for the holidays. He then refused to deliver and said that he couldn’t risk providing another delivery option because I may ‘do this again to him’. I was left beyond confused - literally the strangest delivery experience of my life. Luckily, the refund was processed, but I urge people to be very careful of this kind of service. The insistence on having entry to my home was really worrying to me. At worst this could be a scam and at best it’s just exceptionally unprofessional service, with no consideration for customers.

A 2.5-year battle over R36,000 billed to me in error

About two and a half years ago my MTN contract line was cut - I was unable to call out or receive calls or any other services. It turned out they had cut my line because I had run up a bill of R36,000 in data roaming. This was, of course, an error on behalf of MTN (it was impossible to run up such a bill even if I tried really hard - I had a cap of R5000, thinking I'd never reach it).

Although they admitted it must have been a mistake they refused to reconnect the line until I paid for 50% of this bill. I rely completely on my phone for business so I took a loan out and paid them this 50%. They then said I must pay the other half off. I refused and then entered this totally surreal negotiation and I ended up pay around another R5000.

Fast forward four months later and hours of phone calls, time spent writing so many emails and asking friends for help, I was finally repaid this money.

Then, in March 2017 I was cut off again. They had apparently slowly credited my account with the money they had already paid us back. Once again, an error completely on the part of MTN. Because this made my contract only slightly cheaper each month, I didn't notice this happening. I once again was in a situation where they were ordering me to pay back all the money immediately or face being cut off again. I couldn't believe we were back there again.

The total they had accidentally credited was R 12 226.12. Again, after fighting all day they finally agreed that we could pay 5 installments of R2445.23 per month back to them. I have been doing this diligently every month, even though, once again ALL OF THIS WAS MTN'S ERROR.

However, today 29th June 2017, they cut me off again, insisting that if I didn't pay the remaining amount immediately they would leave my line dead.

My husband and I have bent over backwards trying to resolve the issue that was never related to anything we did wrong and all we have had from MTN was disgusting, unsympathetic bullying. They have left us out of pocket and with a hugely bitter taste in our mouths. We are now just trying to get everything paid as soon as possible so that I can move to another provider.
