Locktec charged me R3500 to replace a broken lock. It took them less than 30 minutes. The invoice states R1495 for an Elzette lock. This lock can be bought online for between R65 and R250. They charged me R1695 for labour. And on top of that a callout fee of R325. They took advantage of the fact that I wasn’t aware of industry pricing and they did not provide me with a quote beforehand. I nievely paid the invoice once the work was done, because it was too late, it’s hard to argue when the work is already completed. Only afterwards did I realize that I had been totally *****ed over. Don’t be fooled by their low callout fee. These guys are unethical and unprofessional. When I queried the high fees, I got no response. I hope nobody else gets caught out by these guys.
In December 2017 I discovered a fraudulent account had been opened in my name with MTN. I reported it immediately to MTN and sent the requested documentation including an affidavit and certified ID. I heard nothing more from MTN and assumed the fraudulent account had been closed or blocked. Five months later I get a call from debt collectors saying I owe R64 000 to MTN. I realized immediately that MTN had clearly not done a proper investigation into the matter, either because they are incompetent or corrupt. I had to get an attorney to ensure MTN did a proper investigation as I was completely powerless in the situation. My name was cleared and the account was found to be fraudulent. This was an incredibly stressful situation and can happen to any South African. I believe MTN should cover my legal costs because it was their responsibility to do a thorough investigation which they clearly did not do. I have had to pay for their incompetence. When I emailed their legal department they simply ignored me. MTN should pay for their mistakes instead of leaving vulnerable South Africans to have to fork out money to defend themselves against their ineptitude.
<p>Although I secured most of my personal property, a device was stolen while workers were left unattended. I was very disappointed with Damp King's response. They they didn't follow up with me and dismissed my concerns for other clients in future. They seemed indifferent and didn't seem to complete an internal investigation at all. I would not recommend Damp King because you cannot trust the staff. </p>
