While the venue and grounds are lovely, the service, accommodation and food left a lot to be desired. The nightmare started with the Google maps listing taking you in completely the wrong direction 15 minutes away from the venue. As a result we were late for the starting time, fortunately the bride was running late. To get the room keys was such a mission, we had to trek very far in heels to collect it, even though the staff told us it wasn't far. When I got to our room, the previous occupant was still in there! We ended up staying with the rest of the guests in the River house. Our bed linen smelled of urine, the staff claimed two towels were missing even though there is no count done when you check in. So we had to pay for it! It's sad that such a nice venue can't get the basics right.
Jaxx Restaurant in Umtentweni serves fantastic food. Lovely ambience. Also highly recommend the pizzas- fresh and promptly made.
My mother had a return trip booked from Johannesburg to Durban. The day before she was to leave, we checked her in online, selected a seat and printed the boarding pass. We arrived at the airport long before boarding would start. She only had one bag to check. To her dismay she and 9 other passengers were told they could not be accommodated and would need to wait for the next plane and pay an extra amount of R900!!! What is the purpose of the online check in and seat selection if the airline overbooks the flights? Truly disappointed. She is a pensioner, she should be treated this way.
