Recently i took my Ford bakkie to Brits Ford because the bakkie's head gasket needed to be replaced. Luckily there were no major damage to the engine but still they advised me to replace the whole engine. I've been around the block a few times so i told them just to replace the head gasket. They responded that there is not enough tollerance to skim the head and replace the gasket. My response was that i have never heard of that. So they replaced the gasket after i went through the quote with them item by item and scratched unnecesary items. The whole ordeal cost me R24000. So i paid and went to fetch the bakkie and after a day or two i realised the radio is not working at all. It was working perfectly before. So i went back and asked them what happened and one technician came out but could not find the problem. So i went to the manager and he said it is electronic stuff which they can not cover. They then gave me a quote of about R20000 to replace the radio and said they worked on the engine and not on the radio. So they will not fix it. In my opinion it is obviously their fault and that they need to fix or replace the radio.
Yet another claim from Ooba that is not paid yet! I submitted the claim on my house that sustained extensive damage to the roof and ceilings because of heavy rain and storms on the 2nd of January 2025. Since then (it is now 26 February) i had to send quotes and id and bank confirmations but they ask for it several weeks apart as soon as i start phoning and sending emails asking what the hold up is. Now there is a new company involved called CLC. So they keep shifting the blame back and forth. Yesterday a guy from CLC phoned me to confirm my id and he said the money will be paid now because my case has been "escalated" for more urgent attention. Still no payment received. I had to pay contractors in advance to do the repairs to stop my roof from getting more damage. If this is how all insurers do business i do not think it is worthwhile.
I had an investment at Sanlam for 20 years. It is a retirement annuaty. My money did not grow interest wise at all and i barely get out what i put in. I stopped my annuity prematurely because of that and now i had to pay fee for that as well. I have been waiting for my payout for more than a month now although they said 15 to 20 working days. My broker who receives a commission for advice did not come back to me at all. So overall i am very disappointed in Sanlam.
I am lodging a complaint against Ooba insure because after the recent storms in the Western Cape my house's roof was damaged. In total four roof sheets has been blown off by the strong winds and i have a lot of damage on my ceilings as well. I started the claim process on 23 September 2023 only to receive an automated response from Ooba stating that they received the claim and will forward it to Thabo at Brolink who will appoint a contractor to handle the matter further. i did not hear from them again and my house is totally exposed to the elements. After several calls to Brolink and Ooba a lady told me to send a damage report and a quote as well as pictures to them at Brolink. I did so but still no response. They also told me that the contractor that i use does not have to be one of the contractors on their list. So i got a local building contractor to do the quote. I am SO frustrated with the poor service from Ooba insure and i hope this review will make them wake up. Wynand Schabort
