I don't usually bother with writing reviews, but this case really deserves it. My wife decided to have a pool built, and all the recommendations in the Knysna and Plett areas kept coming up with Johann of Pelican Pools SC. We noted that the reviews of Pelican Pools (albeit not SC) were generally not good, but having figured out there are many branches, and based on recommendations, we contacted Johan for a quote. That process was nice and straight forward and we were a little apprehensive as he didn't waste time on an over-elaborated quote, but decided to go ahead with him as he had a pleasant straight forward approach and all the past customers we spoke to were extremely glowing about the quality and efficiency of his pool building, especially from home builders and developers in the industry. We wanted to wait until the new year, as we didn't want to have a half done pool over December, but after a few assurances, we decided to go ahead. In fact, we didn't quite believe Johann when he said the build should take about two weeks. What an experience, the team moved in and hand dug the pool having to move the excavated soil down a long sloping stairway. In record time the pool hole was dug, a day later huge trucks were pouring concrete, and before we knew it, barely two weeks later, we have a magnificent pool filled with water. I wish I could post a photo of just how nice it looks, everything done to perfection. Johan's team worked extremely neatly, cleaned up at the end of each day, and clearly knew what they were doing, as the concrete work, pool pump/pipe laying and solar heating panels were all expertly done. So that's it, perfect pool built in two weeks. Johan briefed the wife every day and he was very accommodating with late changes she made, so after the nightmare of having plans done and approved, who would have thought the actual build would take a fraction of the time the paperwork and approvals took. A real pleasure and we have no hesitation in highly recommending Johann and Pelican Pools Southern Cape. In the meantime we hear he is busy with a further two pools in our street alone, and is booked until April next year. This is what happens when you do a great job on time, and he has clearly earned his reputation.
We have used Britz twice in two years for our moves, and both were perfectly executed. On time, for a reasonable price, no hassles. Its nice not to have to worry about the removals company, considering all the other problems and admin involved in a move. The 1st move was JHB to George with Vernon and his team, and the 2nd with Bertram and his to Knysna, and in both cases loaded and offloaded in a day respectively, and considering the shear quantity of our stuff, not a single breakage is just remarkable. This company has to be one of our best discoveries, and we have no hesitation in recommending them.
We regrettably started avoiding staying at Sanparks rest camps, especially in the Kruger Park. After noting the general deterioration in the facilities, old bedding, old huts, kitchens and bathrooms stuck in a 1980s timewarp, its weird that the Cape parks seem to be a totally different organisation. Our recent stays at the Agulhas National Park and Karoo National Park were an absolute pleasure. The chalets, while no means new, were clean and neatly maintained, all items worked, the beds and linen were in excellent condition and commensurate with the prices charged. My only critique being lack of shady carports, seeing as both these parks reach extreme temperatures in the summer and no-one likes to see their vehicles roasted while they are sheltering inside from the midday heat. Park accommodation fees are no longer cheap, especially compared to alternative accommodations, so my congrats to the Agulhas and Karoo camp staff and managers for at least making it a good value proposition and great parks to visit. P.S. Natures Valley main camp huts (in the Tsitsikama NP) are best avoided. The camp seems mainly focused on campers as there are only two huts, which are a total disaster. We left after one night as no electricity, no hot water, no service from the camp staff, no security, braai rusted and unusable etc.
A big thanks to Rohan, Vernon & their team. We joined the lemming run to George, and not having moved before , found the packing very stressful. The least stressful part of the exercise was however the loading and transport. The huge Britz Couriers truck arrived as promised and the guys set about loading immediately and worked like Trojans, wrapping all our poor attempts in tons of plastic, and within a few hours our entire lives were inside one huge truck. Again, as arranged, the truck arrived in George, a little early, but the same sense of efficiency occurred with the offloading. Considering the amount of stuff we had , a few scuffs here and there was the sum total damage. Nothing broken. The experience was a pleasure and the entire team deserves huge kudos for the level and quality of service. We had heard plenty of horror stories about moving and movers, but this company proved otherwise. Thanks again. I highly recommend them.
