Losing a loved one is the last thing any of us want to go through. We pay premiums for policies every month giving up certain things that some might be considered as necessities to ensure that should something happen we will be able to give our loved ones a dignified funeral. Growing up in a household where only the basic needs get provided due to financial constraints I vowed when I got a job I would ensure I would do my part to make life easier for my family. Getting a funeral cover was something I knew I would have to do to ease financial burden of a funeral. I put my trust in the financial institution as I wanted my family taken care of when they passed away just like I have been doing when they were still alive. Losing my Sister is the hardest thing I have ever had to go through, we grew up together, did everything together but when she was brutally ******ed I could not give her a dignified funeral. I was sent from pillar to post, one excuse after another, 48 hours after all the documents were submitted nothing was paid out. The day of the funeral came and still nothing, I had to borrow money and beg people as funeral undertakers want the money paid upfront before the funeral. I am disappointed that the company I trusted to take care of my families needs that prides itself in doing everything so you can grieve without worrying about money could not do that for me. I am disappointed that a 2 weeks after I submitted everything no-one can help to finalize this. I am disappointed that it was network problems that they supposedly had, phone calls that I had to make money spent on the calls, the petrol to go up and down every time to submit and re-submit but still nothing. At NUMSA they supposedly look after the employees and the funeral policy is an added benefit that they provide but they have failed me and my family. The policies are underwritten by Dove and I have even been to their offices and no one was able to help. What is the point of having all of this in place that when the time comes you are on your own. People that work for the companies have been giving contradicting information, something can be done , something needs to be done, something must be done. After all the contributions I should not still be left paying off funeral costs for the rest of the year with no explanation.
My first claim with NUMSA and they are refusing to pay out. Took out the insurance over a year ago completed the necessary waiting periods and now that I'm claiming they are declining my claim. I'm not happy with the service that I have received from NUMSA
