Dreadful experience. The gentleman I actually dealt with was great, but my claim has been an unmitigated disaster. I contacted them on the 2nd of February. I had to find my own service provider as they did not have one in the area (I live in Sandton). A quote could not be given as the repair had to be done in order to follow the string and find what else was wrong. I sent the invoice and then they found 3 service providers to check the work and salvage! One did not call me, the second put the phone down when I said the work had been done. The third came to my house. This was a man who said he would like to work for them, but they did not generally use him as his BEEE status was not what they wanted. SAHL gave him my invoice and what a surprise, he came in much lower! Fair enough, but when I asked to see a copy of his report and quote, they refused. I have had to complete a privacy form requesting sight of his report and to date, I have not heard from their ombudsman, despite repeated mails. I also called and requested to be put through to the ombudsman but was advised that is not permitted. The request was mailed on the 19th. Today is the 29th. It was quite alright to give a competing contractor an invoice, (actually addressed to me and my permission was not asked) for him to quote against, but not for me to see a copy of his report and quote. I will call them again today as I do not expect them to reply any time soon. To my knowledge, but I stand open to correction, this is against the Competition Board Regulations. One may not give a copy of a quote to a competitor. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I am so sad with the behavior as I have been with them for 20 odd years.
