They went out to fix a leaking valve at my apartment in joburg CBD. They did the job before sending me the invoice. Once they had completed the repairs they sent the invoice and I was called and badgered to make payment immediately. The job was overpriced; they charged R178 for an item that costs R70 to R100 and they charged me R1780 for labour and travel (to and from Johannesburg South). They completely took away my right to make an informed decision about which company I would use to fix the issue and they charged me exorbitant prices. I don’t think it’s lawful to demand payment (especially under those circumstances) on the same day. I have laid a complaint with the relevant authorities because they are operating against the consumer protection act. Please do not use them. You can see their ratings on Hello Peter and they don’t even bother to respond to the complaints.
Initially Float reserves the full amount from your card which means although it is not a charge you are still unable to use the money until they reverse the reserve when the instalment goes off. My issue is that the amount is reserved for the entire month (from the 9th for me up until the 1st of the following month when the instalment is actually charged). Let me make an example. In the first month 12k was reserved when I made the purchase and 10k was returned when the first instalment of 2k was charged on the 1st of the next month. This meant I spent a whole month unable to use the 12k they reserved. The following month 10k was reserved for the entire month from the 9th until 2k was charged and the 8k was returned to me at the beginning of the next month. It defeats the purpose of buying something on an instalment plan if you won’t be able to access your money. If you can live without 12k for a whole month then you would’ve just bought the items cash. The inconvenience of this happening every month is super annoying. The worst part is that in their terms and conditions they do not explain that they will be reserving the money the whole month. They simply just say it will be reserved. They need a new strategy. Would highly not recommend. Rather use pay just now or any other option that truly functions the way credit should.
I ordered a caramel sundae from Mc Donald’s and was delivered a chocolate sundae. I complained about this to Uber Eats and my refund was R4.50. I then proceeded to explain that a refund of R4.50 was not adequate as I had spent R63.35 on the order and had to end up throwing out the chocolate sundae because I do not eat chocolate syrup. They responded with “we can see that you have already been refunded for this order and we trust the issue has been successfully resolved.” The issue has only been successfully resolved according to them and not me as the customer who wasted over 10 times the amount they decided was enough as a refund. I have not been listened to as a customer. I have voiced my grievances in multiple emails and on the app support with no avail. I have trie to call them multiple times but they conveniently do not have telephonic services available in my area as yet.
