I collected my dress this afternoon and left Bride & Co in tears, saddened and disappointed beyond words at the condition I found my beautiful wedding dress. Today should have been the final collection day – clean dress, correctly altered, and ready for my wedding in less than two weeks. Instead, I took home a dirty dress that had been damaged by your staff and poorly altered by a seamstress that should not be left alone with a sewing needle - ever. Instead of beautiful and brand new, it looks used and tatty, complete with a tear in the train and missing buttons. My experience with Bride & Co Rivonia at the outset was good, and I felt excited right up to the point that I paid for the dress, and the financial transaction had been completed. Thereafter, the experience deteriorated into a shocking display of incompetence, service failure and blatant disregard for a customer’s time and property. I am filled with regret at having trusted you with my special dress. It was left with you in perfect condition. Minor alterations were requested, but due to inept workmanship, I am left with a dress that needs to be fixed by another person. I feel I must remind you of the debaucherous service delivery – because I am sure you have no clue about what transpired in your store with the people you pay to uphold your brand: Date Detail 10 Sept 2022 Dress purchased: R26 000 dress discounted to around R20 000. 24 Oct 2022 First dress fitting. Alterations requested (paid R1100): 1. Shorten sleeves, 2. Take the width of the sleeves in – too wide, 3. Add slits to the bottom of the sleeves to get my hands in, and add buttons to close, 4. Add buttons to the entire length of the zip at the back, 5. Take the dress in around the torso area, 6. Shorten dress slightly, 7. Add loop to hook dress train during first dance. 8. Note that this loop was explicitly measured by the lady assisting me because the initial location selected by the seamstress was pulling the front of the dress incorrectly. 11 Nov 2022 Second fitting booked for 14:00. 1. Arrived early at 13:20 2. Dress not ready 3. Waited at least 40 – 45 minutes to be told the seamstress had not finished but was rushing to complete 4. Nobody checked that a client’s dress was ready BEFORE the appointment 5. Nobody phoned the client ahead of time to cancel or reschedule – shocking service and a waste of time 6. Daniel confirmed seamstress was busy and aiming to complete with urgency 7. I specifically requested that the alterations NOT be rushed to ensure quality workmanship 8. Daniel phoned the seamstress to stress quality and not rush 9. Provisionally scheduled fitting for 15:00 on 12 November; 10. Was promised a phone call before 17:00 same day to give progress update 11. Nobody phoned before 17:00 as promised. 12 Nov 2022 1. Nobody phoned on 12 November to confirm progress 2. I called at 10:00 to query progress 3. Confirmed appointment for 15:00 4. Dress was ready at 15:00 and sleeves were shortened and taken in, buttons added. Buttons added to entire length of zip but looked terrible on the mesh/zip section – caused the zip to bend and wrinkle. Agreed to remove on mesh section. 5. I queried the loose lace and loose belt, and was assured that it would be reattached upon completion. 6. Daniel agreed to final collection on 21 November at 14:00. 7. Dress to be put back together, buttons removed as stipulated, lace and beaded belt reattached, and dry cleaned. 21 Nov 2022 1. Given previous service issues and wasted time, I phoned at 13:14 to verify that the dress was ready – left a message for Pinkie. 2. 13:18 call back from Pinkie – asked if I had booked for the collection. 3. Confirmed per the above when Daniel diarised the date on the system. 4. Confirmed she’d phone me back after verifying dress readiness. At the same time, I asked her to check that the hook and loop had been added per specification. 5. No call back as promised. 6. 13:45 I phoned her back – Pinkie confirmed hook and loop not done but were in progress 7. I emphasised specifications per the original fitting on 24 October - these were very specific to the dress style 8. Assured it is done on a mannequin to avoid inaccuracies 9. When I arrived to collect the dress, I was forced to fit the dress again as there was no record of the original hook and loop requirement from 24 October – I had to check it myself manually 10. Upon fitting, confirm that specification was not followed and hook and loop were done incorrectly 11. Dress pulled out of shape at the button in the back and hanging on the lace exterior – will lead to the fabric tearing 12. Lining of dress hanging out of the bottom incorrectly 13. Dress pulled in front – precisely what the original spec aimed to do away with 14. Staff assisting attempted to convince me the lining is intended to hang out the back as it is cut larger than the dress and the darker colour serves as a contrast 15. Lining is lining – in no way a feature of the dress 16. It appears staff think customers are idiots and have no idea how a dress is constructed or what fabric is used during the process – this is unwise and bound to cause offence and anger 17. I had to demonstrate that the lining was NOT cut larger than the outer layers of the train and was designed to remain underneath the outer layers 18. The solution offered by the assistant and the seamstress was horrifying; they recommended cutting the lining so that when pulled up, it doesn’t stick out - an illogical and absurd solution, clearly demonstrating a lack of skill and insight 19. It was at that point that I removed the dress and confirmed I would be leaving without requiring further Bride & Co alteration support 20. Note other issues below: 20.1. Dress has been damaged through poor workmanship 20.2. Dress not drycleaned 20.3. Buttons missing 20.4. Button loop broken 20.5. Buttons not sewn on straight and at even intervals 20.6. Beaded belt not stitched back correctly 20.7. Lace once removed and picked open to do the alterations, not stitched back correctly (or at all) leaving pieces of lace loose with threads sticking out 20.8. Due to the loop being fiddled with by your staff during the fitting, the lace in the train, immediately above the loop, has been torn leaving a hole in the fabric. Unfortunately, I cannot post pictures of the damage here - no feature to upload. Your unqualified and bungling staff turned what was supposed to be an exciting and pleasant experience into a nightmare, causing unnecessary anxiety and heartache. I will never recommend Bride & Co to anyone. Instead, I will share my dreadful experience with your revolting store as far and wide as possible because nobody should have their time wasted as your staff wasted mine, nor spend thousands of rands on a beautiful dress, just to have it ruined by someone who isn’t skilled enough to darn a sock.
Excellent service. Ordered books online and delivered the very next day.
AVOID! Bookabook.co.za do not deliver once an order has been paid for. Nobody answers the landline - it goes to a voicemail. Emails go unanswered. Lies about delivery dates and being sent to courier companies for deliveries. Rather pay a little more at Discount Textbooks or Loot - at least your order will arrive. Bookabook.co.za is cheaper than the others but you will lose your money in the process. I have literally left hundreds of messages/emails/WhatsApp messages which went unanswered.
Thank you for your very efficient onboarding of my babies today, Mazibulo Myo. Not only were you efficient and knowledgeable, but your sense of humour and innate service ethic made the onboarding journey a memorable one.
