On the afternoon of the 29/09/2022 (yesterday), I noted I could not use my phone to make calls. It stated "no service". I could also not receive any calls. I switched my phone off, and on again, but the same happened. I thought it had to do with load shedding - that the tower had an issue. Later in the evening - around 19:30 - I asked my husband to phone me, and a strange man answered the phone. My husband asked him why he had my number, but he did not talk, and just hanged up. Thinking he made a mistake, my husband dialed my number again, and again the same stranger answered, but just hanged up the phone. I then phoned Vodacom client service centre later in the evening, just to be told a sim swap was done on my phone. HOW THE HELL DID VODACOM DO THIS WITHOUT CHECKING IDENTITY, OR BREACHING THE POPI ACT LIKE THIS !!!!!!!! No this stranger HAD ALL MY INFO, AND VODACOM AUTHORISED THIS SIM SWAP, WITHOUT MY KOWLEDGE !!!!!!!! They did reverse the sim swap, but I am not comfortable using my phone, and not sure what information this stranger obtained. Pls address this, or else I will be contacting the ombudsman.
